Rabbit37
First, just to clarify. Pdoc had offered me ambien a couple of months ago, but I declined, because of its sleepwalking reputation. So yesterday, after three full nights of no sleep, I was desperate. Husband offered me one of his ambien. I said yes. Took it and immediately went to bed. Slept for a while, had to get up to put a bandage on my arm, then a couple of hours later, had to pee. Woke at 4:30, knew the alarm would be going off soon, so got up. Shit. Started walking into walls. Disoriented and dizzy. Somehow, somehow, got the kids up and out the door. Do not remember driving son to school, only parking when I got home. Without thought, immediately came in and crawled on the couch for a while.Woke a bit later, answered a phone call from BIL, then went to pick up son's meds. At the pharmacy, whileI was waiting on the bench, I fell asleep. I started falling sideways, that woke me up. Thought perhaps I should stand and look at the vitamins. I fell asleep standing up, only my swaying woke me up. Decided to pace instead... Okay, they know me, know my meds. I think I worried them. Finally got checked out, had to drive the 1.5 miles home with the a/c blasted in my face, and I kept fucking up the gears, suddenly switching from 4th to 2nd, whoa, that's not good. The rest of the day has been constantly napping. Oh, and did I mention the Sahara desert in my mouth?Fuck. This. Won't ever take this shit again. I'd rather live on adrenaline. jt07
You had a massive sleep debt. I'm guessing any med that was strong enough to put you out would cause you to be very sleepy all day due to having not slept for three nights. Not saying Ambien can't be a problem. Rabbit37
Your point is taken, jt, but I have been here, done that too many times, and I never had a reaction like this. Even heavier doses of seroquel, and saphris for that matter, didn't affect me like this. It was just wild. Yikes.
Gearhead
I used to know a guy who constantly seemed to be on the toilet when his Ambien hit. He used to fall off all the time. It didn't wake him.jt certainly has a point, but it is not a med for everyone.
melissaw72
This is the same kind of reaction I have with Ambien, even if my sleep has been ok and I take one. I'll get up and do things, and try to think back on what I just did, or earlier on, and my mind is a blank. I tend to sleep eat, and while I'm on the computer, I will forget everything I did, so when I am more "awake" I have to check if I emailed anyone, and what I said, if I did. I refuse to take ambien ever again. That is scary with the driving. I'm glad you didn't get into any accidents.
Flash
Sorry you had a bad Experience with this med, Rabbit. Maybe try doxepin. I don't get a full night's sleep on it, but I get more than I do with IR ambien and I have never had any issues like you describe.
revolution724
Yikes. Please, please do not drive on Ambien. I prosecute a lot of DUIs, and Ambien shows up frequently. It can be extremely dangerous. People not only put themselves at risk of arrest, but sometimes get in wrecks and don't even remember it, and there is really not much space between a near miss and a fatality crash. Especially if you aren't used to the med and aren't familiar with how it affects you. I am glad you got home safely.
Rabbit37
Thank you, revolution, I haven't taken it since. I'm an extremely cautious driver, always have been, and that scared me too much. Thanks for your concern.
Savannah
Ask your pdoc about trying Rozerem. It is wonderful and not sleepy in the am. I used to take it with 200trazadone before I went back on Seroquel.
