Chaotic-neutral
I take zyprexa prn, I was wondering in you guys experience how long does it take for weight gain to kick in? I'm anorexic so very scared of weight gain, now i can only take it for a couple of days before i get very paranoid that it will cause me to gain a lot. So, anyone else take it prn want to tell me how long it took before you started noticing weight gain; 1 week, 2 weeks etc? I am on low dosage (2.5 - 5). Also curious if you feel like if you gained or got higher blood sugar etc on short term use; how fast did it go away after stopping again when the episode was finished? Thank you very much! uncomfortable thoughts
Hi, I didn't take zyprexa prn but took seroquel prn, both are very common in causing weight gain and famous for that and shares the same side effects as all the antipsychotics that I tried, some people have better responses and don't gain weight but...For my own experience, I didn't gain weight from nothing, I gained weight because it made me so hungry, the increased apetite played the major role.I think it's always nice checking up blood sugar and lipids but since you're taking it prn I would not be too concerned, watch out for food craving, I guess this is the major factor in weight gaining on those substances and I guess you will notice your increased weight as you eat more. Flash
I take Zyprexa PRN, and I haven't had any issues with weight gain. It has never made me extra hungry, though. My pdoc has seen patients who gain weight on it without altering their food intake, however, so it's not all about the calories. I think it would be unusual to gain much if you're only taking it for a few days. I haven't needed to take it more than that, as it is remarkably effective for me as an anti-manic, at least if I take it at the first signs of hypo/mania. Keaton
I didn't take it prn but I was also on a low dose the first time I took it, and I gained 50 lbs in less than two months. So if you do the math... that's a lot of weight gain, dear god. I've only been on it 2-3 times (when I get really bad) and each time I gain around 50 pounds. I don't know if you'll gain if you're only on it for a week. I'd *guess* probably not, but who knows with this med.
Flash
Wowzerz! I knew it had a bad reputation for weight gain, but didn't realize the pounds could pack on so quickly.

San
I took 10mg Zyprexa Zydis years ago, and I had EDNOS. I didn't gain any weight. I didn't lose any, either, but technically I was underweight at the time. I've never taken it PRN, just daily in my combo.
Chaotic-neutral
It's weird, but i'm 7 days on it now and i actually feel like my appetite has dropped a lot. I dont feel hungry at all. I also have really bad backpain. Anyone else get loss of appetite on this drug? Gonna see my doc tomorrow and ask him to send me to a psychiatrist to talk about med change possibly. the side effects are killing me Edited October 19, 2015 by Chaotic-neutral
