starship_subaru
Ok so this probably doesn't belong here but it seemed like the most fitting forum.I used to have heartburn quite frequently, but it hasn't been too bad since I quit drinking coffee. But every once in a while i still wake up in the middle of the night choking on what tastes like vomit. It happened twice last night. It's very scary and sometimes really hard to catch my breath afterward.Anyone else have this? What did you do about it? saintalto
Yeah, I've got acid reflux, but I ignore my physical health terribly and do nothing about it. I know my dad has it too, he has medication for it, but we don't talk so I don't know anymore than that.
Cherricherri
Apple cider vinegar works wonders for me. A tablespoon before bedtime. I second not eating after dinner, especially anything overly starchy.
melissaw72
Yes I have this, and am on meds for it. I tried weaning off the med for it and the same thing happened as to what you are describing. You might want to bring this up with your DR because the acid, when it comes up your esophagus each time, can "burn" (or something like that, that wears it down) the esophagus. Here is just one link of many that I found, with a quote from the article underneath: http://www.healthline.com/health/gerd/and-your-throatThat burning sensation you feel with heartburn is stomach acid harming the lining of the esophagus. Over time, repeated exposure of stomach acid to the lining of the esophagus can cause a condition known as esophagitis.Esophagitis is an inflammation of the esophagus that makes it prone to injuries like erosions, ulcers, and scar tissue. Symptoms of esophagitis may include pain, difficulty swallowing, and more acid regurgitation. A doctor can diagnose this condition with a combination of tests, including a biopsy or a barium x-ray.Your doctor will likely begin treatment immediately if you've been diagnosed with esophagitis, as an inflamed esophagus can lead to more health complications. wadjet
I had a similar problem that developed into pain and now take Omeprazole and haven't had a problem since. My son had the same thing that was solved by Omeprazole.

starship_subaru
Thanks for all the help everyone! I have tried several of your suggestions and it seems to have subsided for now. I miss my coffee and beer though It is good to know there are also meds that can help this. I will keep that in mind as an option if it comes back. The reflux started coming back right after i started elavil which worried me because it seems to be a pretty effective med so far and i didnt want to have to stop taking it.
