Unknown Dude
Hey people, I've been suffering (if that's an illness) from extreme sleepiness for like a year now. Whenever I wake up, I want to sleep again. No matter how much time I've been sleeping. Sometimes I'd be awake for only 5-6 hours and the rest of the day I'd be sleeping. I can't find comfort. Is that an illness/condition?.
melissaw72
Hi, welcome to CB It could be something or it couldn't be something. We have no idea of knowing that. You'll need to see a DR for a diagnosis. We can give our personal advice though. Also not knowing if you are on meds or not, or if you've seen a DR about this and they aren't sure where to go, it is hard to give any advice. If it were me though, I would try to find a neurologist and ask for a sleep study. Wonderful.Cheese
I second the idea of getting a sleep study and seeing a specialist. I've had a couple. One day time and two night time ones.
GSPolar
Dude,What makes you really feel alive? I have had utmost serious insomnia for several years following war trauma. Do you know what cures me? Doing something in my day that I get completely lost in, like time has no meaning anymore. There is something out there that used to make you feel that way. Something you always thought you might be good at but somebody told you that you wouldn't so you didn't pursue it. Its time to make an extreme break of your rusty cage and be the real you. Try it, and see if sleep happens naturally again. What makes you feel really alive?
Melina
I too suffer from sleeping too much and wanting to sleep more when I wake up I will definitely get checked out for this and I don't know if I am up for a sleep study that means I would have to wear a mask and I know I wouldn't be able to do that. I would feel like I was smothering or suffocating with a mask on while I slept. I sleep on my stomach and that wouldn't work out too well I would really suffocate then. But Anyhow I will look into why I sleep all the time. My Psych Dr. doesn't seem to care or know why I sleep so much. So I quit talking about it and asking since he doesn't seem to know the reason. I need to see someone who is experienced in that area that can clarify and answer all my questions I may have. I feel dead and Not alive anymore like the Walking Dead if there were such a thing that would be me.
aquarian
I did a sleep study and I don't remember having to wear a mask. I think I had to wear something under my nostrils and had lots of sensors hooked up to my head and body, but no mask. They didn't find any problems with sleep apnea in my case, but if they had, I think then I would've been fitted for a mask.
Wooster
I didn't have a mask when I had a sleep study either.

dilemma
I have had numerous sleep studies. Whether or not they have you wear a mask or not is dependent on what your doctor orders. Even if s/he wants to check you for sleep apnea, you start off without a mask, and they only have you wear one if you have symptoms. I normally sleep on my side, but one time they had me sleep on my back for awhile just to check to see if I had it, but I didn't so I didn't have to wear a mask. Melina
I am afraid I may have sleep apnea or something similar to it and will have to wear a mask but I guess the only way of knowing is to have the sleep study done on me to see.
Wonderful.Cheese
There are many types of "masks." Some are full face and some are nasal pillows only and some just cover your nose only. I hope that helps you feel better about it. They are not uncomfortable in my experience (and I have a full mask). They let you try on ones (at least at the store I was at) and that way you can find what feels best (along with what the sleep doc feels is a good mask for you).
