aura
Has anyone experienced suicidal thoughts as a side effect of clonazepam? I had a blip of intense suicidal thoughts and urges this week and I'm trying to figure out if it could be attributable to my PRN. Not the best PRN if it's making me feel suicidal... Rabbit37
My pdoc won't prescribe me benzos, because I am too depression prone. Clonazepam was at one time a vehicle, but I can't say if it was the cause. It was just there, very convenient. Maybe try vistaril? Not nearly as good, but it did help calm me down. saintalto
You really should ask your doctor about something strong for PRN if you can get it, at least for while you're manic anyway.I took clonazapam for anxiety awhile back (when I was on ability it worsened anxiety). I don't remember feeling suicidal on it, it did nothing at all, actually. You really should ask your doctor about something strong for PRN right now if you can get it, at least for while you're manic anyway.I took quetiapine for PRN both for anxiety and later for psychosis/mixed states during the daytime. It just takes little doses during the daytime as needed. I know you are scared of antipsychotics, but PRN doses are so small and so irregularly taken, I don't think you'd have a huge issue with side effects. Quetiapine isn't just used for psychosis either, my pdoc said it's used off label for both depression and anxiety. She said it's really good at a lot of things, and it's possible very soon the antipsychotic label will be removed so it can be used more widely for other purposes (I'm probably butchering her wording a bit).Anyway, see if you can get something that can handle stronger symptoms for the time being. aura
Oh how I wish it weren't Friday! You're right, saintalto. I'll try to push for a stronger PRN.
Lurksalot
To the OP, yes, I did. I cried all day for the few days I took it. I got it from a cardiologist who just wanted to tide me over until I could see a psychiatrist. Ativan worked though. A friend who visited left one on the nightstand and it was a miracle, for half a day.
melissaw72
I've never had suicidal thoughts when taking klonopin, and have been on it for at least 15 years.
FlamelessCandle
I was on clonazepam for ten years. Never caused suicidal thoughts. Of course, the additional worry with benzos is that someone who is contemplating suicide will take too many... but that wasn't your question.Could it be that your depression is just not being well-treated by other meds/therapy? I am sure you've thought of that, of course. Just sharing my experience w/clonazepam.
tryp
Both Ativan and Klonopin gave me severe dysphoria and dissociation with suicidal thoughts. I can't touch benzos at all anymore. Even 0.125 of Klonopin gives me problems. So it could be, though not everybody has that problem.

The suicidal thoughts came out of nowhere. That's why I was thinking maybe it could be the clonazepam.
crtclms
Clonazapam did not make me suicidal. However, it did make me have rages, which included throwing and breaking things. I am not saying I never get irritable, or angry, but this was a whole different level. It always started exactly 2 hours after I took it. So irritability (and beyond) can be a side effect.
