I've gone up and down on abilify a few times over the last three years, tapering off to practically nothing at some points, but I think this is the last chance it gets with me. I feel way too flat, and every time I upped my dose in the past the same thing happened- joyless existence and general lack of motivation or satisfaction. I would hit a bumpy patch of depression or anxiety and up the dose would go, and it worked, but at the expense of a normal range of emotions. So down the dose would go again, and my motivation would return and restlessness and lack of focus would decrease. I'm ready to tell the pdoc that I'm done with it once and for all. Has anyone experienced flatness with abilify? Has anyone found a good alternative- something that keeps the ruminating at bay but doesn't carpet-bomb motivation and desire?

When I got up to 15mg of Abilify, the sads went away, but I was left with anhedonia. That didn't go away until I hit 250-300 mg of doxepin. Anyway, you might discuss a different (or supplemental) AD with your pdoc. Wellbutrin Didn't work on my anhedonia at all. In fact, doxepin is the only AD that ever worked for me. My pdoc seems to be of the opinion that the older tricyclics can be more effective in treating stubborn cases of depression. I hope you find a solution.

Abilify has never caused me flatness, not at any dose. For me, it's the exact opposite. Without Abilify, I have no motivation, now joy in life, and just blah but Abilify makes everything much better.

More Abilify=flatter, but too little =manic. I'm trying to find middle ground. I had hoped to wean off entirely, but that was unrealistic. I think there is a mid point for me, at least I hope so. Sometimes dealing with a med that's mainly working is preferable to switching since I could do worse.
