Am i the only one who loves being hypomanic?

Recommended Posts

It's never been too much of a problem for me. It makes me more energic, motivated, creative, social, euphoric and happy. It's almost like i've taken cocaine and it's pretty much the opposite of my depression. Which consists of loss of interest in activites, low energy, demotivation, hypersomnia and suicidal ideation.

The only problems i've had with hypomania is that i've sometimes been irritable and lost many nights of sleep. Which made me messed up the next day.

I love the experience of hypomania. I've even loved some euphoric manic episodes (not the scattered, irritable ones). I think that's part of why I have so much difficulty accepting the changes I need to make in my life so that I can get stable.

I've only had a very, very short technically hypomanic episode (24-48 hours in total---good old zyprexa knocked it out quite quickly when I ended up in the hospital because of it).  I did not enjoy it because it turned dsyphoric quicker than you could say my name.  It was nasty, ugly, and scary.  I was terrified of life, scared of the people around me, and scared of pretty much everything to be honest.  This was partially because it was mixing with some ptsd-like symptoms (I was caught up in a drug raid a few months prior), but, in short, I was not a fan.

I like my romanticized memory of them more than going through them. Always there are down sides, although, true, compared to depression, it's easy to forget the down side. I'd prefer to be on the slightly above even mark on the mood scale, but I don't have the ability to set the endpoint where I want it.
