Foot tingling and numbness

Recommended Posts

Having foot tingling and pretty strong numbness.  Not sure if it's one of my psych meds but I hope not case they are working very well for my bipolar/mania.

Lithium 900mg

Lamictal 100mg

Klonopin 1mg

Zoloft 100mg

Vistaril 150mg

Neurontin 300mg

No I do not plan on stopping my meds as they are a huge help and just wanted to know if the side effect is caused by any of these. Yes it is a handful of meds but I have extreme mania and they work well to keep me calm and focused.

Thanks in advance

Neurological symptoms like numbness and tingling that are new really deserve to be evaluated by your GP.

Are you taking the gabapentin for psych reasons or for neuropathy?

I have this in my hand and feet. They used to cold and numb and tingly and in the winter they can look disturbingly blue-ish. Also when I'm stressed it can act up. GP told me to buy and use only miareno wool socks and I also wear miareno gloves open at the end so I can wear them without hardly noticing they're on. It pretty much did away with all my symptoms.

I agree you should see a doctor, though, because it's good to make sure it isn't something serious.

Good luck.

Both Lamictal and Topamax gave me parethesia; although it was worse with Topamax.

Me too (with topomax). I had the tingling/prickly feeling in my feet, ankles, wrists and hands.  Had to go off of topomax because of it.

@melissaw72 my parethesia with Topamax would lessen the longer I was on a steady dosage. At times it would go away completely...well, until I upped the dosage. I mainly just had it in my feet and hands/fingers though.

I'm glad your symptoms went away until you upped the dose.  That didn't happen to me ... I had been on a steady dose, and the tingling and prickly feeling was actually getting worse as time went on.  At first it was in my hands, then feet, then spread to ankles and wrists.  It all happened gradually until I couldn't take it anymore.

That's pretty much how I treat crappy symptoms lol. If the med works for me, I try to tolerate the side-affects. If the med doesn't work, the side-affects aren't worth to tolerate long term. If the med works, but the side-affects outweigh the benefits...bye bye med.

The TPX/LTG combo seems to have done it for me, but I also have an evaluation for Raynaud's syndrome next month. There's no way human flesh should get as cold as mine does.

I concur with everyone else. You need to bring this up with your GP.

Exactly ... me too.
