Swamp56
I've been taking Artane for the last 2 weeks and noticed a lot of short term memory issues, to the extent where I'm going to have to stop it. Has anybody had any luck for akathisia on another medication? I've heard of Cogentin and unsuccessfully tried Propranolol a long time ago.
mikl_pls
Cogentin has the same mechanism of action as Artane (anticholinergic), so if you are having short-term memory issues on Artane, then you will likely have them on Cogentin too; however, you never know for sure, so it might be worth a try. I've had good luck with some benzos, such as clonazepam (Klonopin) (1-2 mg for me), lorazepam (Ativan) (2-4 mg for me), and alprazolam (Xanax) (1-2 mg for me), as well as strong 5-HT2A antagonists such as mirtazapine (Remeron) and even ziprasidone (Geodon), which one wouldn't think to take an antipsychotic for akathisia induced by another antipsychotic, but it works for me for some reason. But most of my good luck has come from benztropine (Cogentin) and other anticholinergics like diphenhydramine (Benadryl).
