alexander101 Posted October 18, 2016 Share Posted October 18, 2016 Quick background story: About 2.5 months ago i started a cocktail of lexapro (morning), seroquel xr (at night), and diazepam (daily, to help with start-up of lex) all for anxiety ... I was off meds for a while and this cocktail worked best the last time I needed them. Anyway, after about a month of being on 15mg diazepam, I was starting to feel better so I began to taper 2.5mg every 2 weeks and everything was fine until a few days ago (my last cut I was at 7.5mg). Now my anxiety is back to the way it was before the meds. The doctor was hesitant in letting me cut back on diazepam so early but I kept insisting so he let me try it, now i regret doing it. Now I was put back on 15mg diazepam again since yesterday, and although i feel a bit of relief, I'm still quite anxious. I'm guessing it takes a while for the diazepam to build up to a therapeutic dose in my system again? I remember reading that since diazepam has a long half life (100 for diazepam and 200 for active metabolites), it takes a week or 2 for a therapeutic dosage to build up in your system. At the same time, my mind is probably in shock from the quick taper I shouldn't have done. Maybe it takes a while to kick in, how long has it been now since you started taking them at the 15mg? Did you build a tolerance to it? I'd ask the doc about that and maybe they can switch you to something else that might help you. I'd definitely ask, if it doesn't get any better for you.
