Seasonal depression and MDD

Recommended Posts

I need to get out of this funk fast! I'm oversleeping, have zero energy, spend my days in a fetal position in bed, bad attitude, irritable, agitated, crying spells, angry outbursts, and I have zero energy or motivation. What meds should I be discussing with my pdoc to help the SAD in addition to what I'm taking for my MDD? Should I switch thr Prozac to Zoloft? Go back to Wellbutrin XR 300 mg? Switch to cymbalta?

Is is there a new med I should try?

If your depression was otherwise controlled by your meds and you are suffering mostly from SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) right now, I wouldn't make med changes. As was mentioned in your other thread, the treatment for SAD is light therapy and possibly vitamin D3. On the other hand, if it is not SAD and is MDD acting up, then you might have to make med changes. We can't know that though, and I emphasize that you should talk the options over with your psychiatrist.

I think I replied on your other thread earlier in more detail.

If it was me I would ask about increasing the Wellbutrin as that is normally good for energy.   Also Zoloft is pretty stimulating in my experience....   it can be mixed with Wellbutrin too.

I'll second this. YMMV but it would definitely be worth considering.

I would second @crazyguy as well. If you feel your mood decreasing as we go into fall, then going up on Wellbutrin is probably your best bet. Prozac is generally regarded as stimulating as well. I've taken Zoloft before and can definitely attest to its stimulant effects. But if it aligns with seasons increasing Wellbutrin would make the most sense to me.
