Evekeo/Adderall sexual side effects

Recommended Posts

Hi all... My pdoc has had me on Adderall for about nine months now, 45mg per day, off-label for depression. It was pretty effective at first and gave me lots of energy and motivation. Now those benefits have worn off, and neither my doc or I wants to increase the dose. And I have a major complaint about Adderall: I believe (but I could be wrong) that it is causing me ED and almost total loss of libido. I have been on so many anti-depressants over the years (I'm 66 now) and if sexual effects are a 1% probability of a given med, I'll be in that 1%! So now I have a new pdoc (actually a nurse practitioner) who wants to substitute Evekeo for the Adderall plus she has started me on Lamictal. (As a side note, I am amazed that so many pdoc's have no clue about the side effects of withdrawing from Adderall-- she had me reduce it from 45mg to 30mg and I am absolutely dying of fatigue and irritability.)

But my main question is this: is there any reason to believe Evekeo will not cause the sexual problems that Adderall has caused me? I understand the mix of salts is 50-50 in Evekeo as opposed to 75D/25L in Adderall. But I am doubtful that such a small difference would affect the sexual issue. Any thoughts or opinions? The cynical side of me thinks my nurse practitioner gets a financial benefit in prescribing a new med still under patent.

Thanks so much!

They stimulate the release of dopamine, the "pleasure" neurotransmitter, so I would think that the only sexual effects would be positive (unless of course you abuse/take too much, become tolerant so it loses effectiveness or you somehow deplete your dopamine stores?)

Thanks for the responses. I do not abuse Adderall and take a doctor-supervised dose of 45mg daily, divided in three portions of 15mg. I have been on it for only about nine months. If you google "Adderall sexual side effects" there are a ton of people on forums who do get sexual dysfunction with this med. Hardly any such comments of Evekeo boards, but then again, Adderall has been around a lot longer than Evekeo. I do have a number of compulsions that may, as cloudmonger suggests, be depleting my reserves of dopamine.

Thanks again.
