original guy
I've been prescribed amitriptyline to take at night for my depression, anxiety, chronic fatigue and pain. I see it has been out for a long time. Does anyone know if there are any particular generic manufacturers that are better than others for this med? I ask because on several other meds in the past I could notice a significant difference from certain generic drug makers, especially with paxil, effexor, and klonopin. I know its supposed to be "therapeutically equivalent" but they can definitely vary. Thank you.
jt07
I have not found a wide variation in Elavil generics.
mikl_pls
I, too, have noticed significant differences from certain generic drug manufacturers. They lie through their teeth when they say that the generics are all the same... Lamotrigine is a prime example of that for me. I had to take Teva lamotrigine because it was the only one that was effective for me, but unfortunately it made me break out in horrible acne, so I had to switch generics, which made me break out in a different type of acne and wasn't nearly as effective, so I just quit taking lamotrigine and switched to zonisamide. Anyway... I've never taken amitriptyline, but from my experience in taking generics, Sandoz and Mylan are good generic companies in my experience, at least for me—YMMV. When I was on desipramine, another TCA, it seemed like Sandoz was more effective than Actavis. That's just my two cents worth, so take it with a grain of salt. Good luck with the amitriptyline!
