Therapeutic doses of Seroquel (300mg+) have a tendency to both knock me out and also induce this strange uncomfortable feeling that I can't really explain. I've been reading about XR, and from what I've read it doesn't have the same "I felt like I was hit by a truck" feeling to it. Has anyone tried both, and how did you find XR over IR?

I've been on both. I'm currently on 600mg of the IR, but I was on 600mg of the XR too. XR didn't make me tired at night, but it made me tired all day long. IR knocks me out at night, but if I get at least nine or so hours of sleep, I'm good, and not tired the next day.

I know that's not a lot of information, but I hope it helps!

THIS^^

I have a lot more issues with eating more on IR, then I did on XR. On XR I barely ate. On IR I eat a lot.

Been on both in the past, and in my experience the IR worked much better for sleep-no daytime grogginess with it....

With the XR I got less sleep, and felt like I was in a fog all day.

Both made me gain weight though,so that was the deal-breaker for me.

Gotta agree with the majority - I've been on both and while XR sounds like a great idea in theory, the reality is it just ends up ruining the day.
Rather than feeling super out of it exclusively at night (or when I take the meds), I feel very 'abnormal' for the majority of the day instead. Its not that different from having a 'low energy day' that I used to have very often when I was a child, the feeling that something is awry and you dont quite have the energy to do your normal activities because of the low energy. 'Day Fog' is very accurate term.

I'm coming up on 5 years of taking 600mg of the XR, and was on doses of up to 1,000mg of the IR for nearly a decade before that.  I find that it's all about the timing - the XR "kicks in" about 4 hours after I take it, on a typical day between 4 and 5pm.  I do feel groggy when my alarm goes off, but that's also due to the fact that I'm taking clozapine and zolpidem at night too.  A large mug of coffee does the trick for me, and I'm able to get up, go to work and function.  I really struggled with finding the right dose of the IR, and my experience with the XR has been that it's infinitely more stable and better for me.

I really must emphasise the timing again - if you're taking it (say) at 8pm and expecting to be able to get up and face the day early in the morning, you're going to struggle.  It does mean that I pretty much have a zero life as far as going out in the evenings goes, but I'll take that over the hassles I had with the IR.
