'The Mental Health Crisis in Trump’s America'

Recommended Posts

A few days after Donald J. Trump was elected president, I started getting anxious phone calls from some of my patients. They were not just worried about the direction President-elect Trump might take the nation, but about how they were going to fare, given their longstanding and serious mental illnesses.

“Will I still have insurance and have my medications covered?” one depressed patient asked me.

As a psychiatrist, I wish that I could be more reassuring to my patients during a highly stressful political transition, but in truth, they have reason to worry.

FWIW ... the link doesn't work ... says page not found.  My guess is that the article was taken down.

But thank you for writing about it so we have an idea of what the article said before it was taken down.

This whole thing really sucks and it will effect many people, I agree.

Hey Retro, could you please make sure you're not quoting an entire article from somewhere else, but sharing the link instead?
"Fair Use" and all that.

Thanks.

The problem is that when you go to the link, it says page not found.  It must have been taken down after posting.

The problem, in addition to the link not working, is we need to make sure we aren't posting more than 10% of an already published, copyrighted work.

Oh, ok ... I didn't realize there was a limit like that ... thank for the info.  Learned something new!

I just clicked on the link again and the article is back up!

Fair to blame Trump though?  There's been a MI problems skyrocketing in America for about a decade...

Given that parity between mental health services and "physical" health services was written into the ACA (aka 'Obamacare') and is removed in the Republican health care bill coming down the shoot, yeah it is fair.

I agree 100%.............

The new legislation (which has not yet passed, and I hope it doesn't), would allow states to cut mental health and substance abuse services from the list of essential health care benefits.

The GOP bill also contains deep Medicaid cuts which would greatly affect mental health care services and substance abuse services for folks on Medicaid:

IMO, an extremely bad bill......7 Republican Senators have already said they won't vote for it...

Every time there is a mass shooting, the Republicans say that we don't need tougher gun laws and that we really need better mental healthcare. Now they are being shown for the hypocrites they are. Why can't people see through this?

That's what I want to know too! They say that we need better mental health care, not better gun control (which is false if you ask me, we need both!), but now when it comes down to it, they don't give a rats @$$ about mental health care. ugh. It's going to be bad, I can feel it.

Breaking news------They have "revised" the Senate bill yet AGAIN folks.....The new revised version is supposed to be unveiled tomorrow (Thursday):

My guess is that the revised version won't satisfy moderate Repubs or hard-core Repubs......The two groups just can't agree......This is so pathetic......The rest of the world is laughing at us.......**SIGH**

I kinda hope that they keep being unable to satisfy the other.  I mean yes, we'll look pathetic.  But we already do.  I've kind of given up on that one. At least if they can't agree on a bill, we don't have crappy health care legislature in the making.

Excellent point.....If it keeps going on like this, the legislation will die at some point, and they'll have to give up.

I just hope the Democrats stay firm and don't try to find a compromise on this. Just this time don't snatch defeat  out of the jaws victory, okay?

I'm anxious about Trump and I am not in the USA.  I am in Other Russia (Canada) and he says he is not going to help Canada if we get bombed by nukes,  thanks to his ass hattery.

I am still waiting on the great wall of Canada he promised to build.

Sorry for those who didn't vote this madman in, and I am sorry for those who regret voting him in.  We are in for some interesting times.
