In-laws and repeated stigma

Yesterday I got it again, my wife was chided by her bitch of a sister how I should "suck it up" as far as not going inpatient because my wife sprained her foot bad.  This is just one of many, I no longer go to holidays since they said one, that they couldn't believe I had friends, which I do, two, I shouldn't drive and this is the one I love....I use my mental illness to manipulate my wife into not seeing them.  Which I have NEVER done.  But yea, said mental illness, I should "suck it up".  Just the tip of the iceberg but I don't feel like writing a book.  Oh also, it would be nice if my wife would have the fortitude to defend me once in a while but at 50 years old she is still scared of the wrath of her sister.

Wow ... I just wanted to say I read what you wrote, and I'm sorry you go/are going through that.  Definitely a good idea to stay away from them, especially the holidays.

I don't have any advice, but wanted you to know I'm thinking of you. Stigma, especially from family, is the worst.
