I had a hard time when I first found crazy meds...trying to figure out all the different terms everyone was using. I was able to figure them out, but jeeezzzz...I already had a headache from my hubby's bipolar issues! Anyway...what about creating a glossary in this newbie check in section to help people along? Is there already one and I just didn't notice? I miss things when I am stressed.

If there isn't one...I will get things started. (If there is one, feel free to make fun of me!)

AD - Anti-Depressant

ADHD - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

BP - BiPolar

Dx - Diagnosis

MS - Mood Stabilizer

SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors

Tdoc - Psychiatric therapist or councelor

Pdoc - Psychiatrist or medication prescribing doctor

Uberspazz - being autistic, bipolar and epileptic, plural form: uberspazzen (according to strungoutonlife)

If you have more terms...please post. I can gather them all together into one coherant post after we get most of the terms covered.

Question...is NT supposed to mean "Normal-type"??

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Actually, it refers to Neuro-Typical.  Although, I'm really starting to prefer the term Neuro-Social.  heh, heh.  Humour people, humour.

I actually started the abbreviations list on the old site.  I couldn't keep up with it though.  There may be a way for me to index the information into a more easily retrievable format for quick calls when you need a term.  [sorry, my brain has been stuck in code for over 24 hours now]  Give me a bit and I'll see what I can come up with for you.

This is only the first post of that thread.  I've included the link to that thread at the top of this post [Crazy Talk] I will start working on transferring the rest of the abbreviations & acronyms to this thread tomorrow or sometime soon.  I hope this helps a bit so far, though.  Thanks for the kick to the butt, I'd totally forgotten about it!

*Updated*

Updated to include the suggestions from Crazy Talk on YaBB that never got done, plus the suggestions from wifezilla and Velvet Elvis.  I also updated the credits to all who contributed to the glossary/abbreveviations/acronyms list.  I also included some additional ones that I stuck me as I was adding the newly suggested ones.

Thanks to all the contributors!

I started one (a glossary), but being the anal, mildly obsessive/compulsive perfectionist freak that I am, I've been unable to keep it to a manageable length so that I can actually finish it this century. I'll keep trying, though.

Fuckiatrist- qdoc to the n th degree. Ignores symptoms you KNOW because you've  HAD MDD all your life and plays little games like taking you off one of your meds that you've been on, successfully, for 2 years, then refusing to see you for your scheduled intake the day you get released from the bin to which you were certified after a failed suicide under his careful w/drawal of such med, then refusing to see you again because the fucking receptionists can't coordinate a date and a day of the week on a fucking appointment card.

Basically, a fuckiatrist just hopes you'll manage to successfully kill yourself before they ever have to actually see you.

anafagodma,

Oh god, your description is so right on so many levels. Mine phuckiatrist threw me into a month long (and counting....) ultraradian cycling mixed state from hell because he chose not to believe my prior diagnosies (sp?) that had been agreed upon by several doctors (pdocs, tdoc, and gp) as well as chosing to downplay or completely ignore ALL my my symptoms for no good fucking reason. In a completely sarcastic tone: "Oh, sure, you're bipolar - here's 150mg of effexor, have a nice trip!" A trip to the ER, change of meds, and new doctor later and i'm STILL in hell. Fucking phuckiatrist. FUCK YOU ABOULNAZR!

[/end rant]

And don't forget to check the help section for what I have put together.  It's not as extensive, but it is searchable.  And hopefully helpful.  And always available right up at the top.  I've also updated some of the terms and added the link to the computer and chat terms and added Revlow and GrouseMouse to the credits.

Oh. My. God. That is, like, EXACTLY what happened to me a few months ago. EXACTLY. A shrink chose not to believe my prior diagnoses for no apparent reason, completely ignored my symptoms and anything I tried to say to him, and prescribed me Effexor, which threw me into an ultradian cycling mixed state from hell. (I feel uncomfortable describing myself as "ultradian cycling" even though I'm pretty sure it's accurate, since it feels like self-diagnosis when a shrink has never used that term with me, but at least one has described me as rapid cycling. But I think it's not incredibly easy to find a shrink who believes that ultradian cycling exists. Hell, it's hard enough to find one who'll say "rapid cycling.") Mine only lasted a little over three weeks, though, because I got arrested and taken to the hospital after three weeks, and when I stopped taking Effexor, I actually became fairly stable again. Lucky me. But I would feel a lot luckier if he had prescribed me a fucking mood stabilizer in the first place, 'cause then the three-week roller coaster ride from hell wouldn't have happened.

I an aspie. We don't use the phrase "suffering from autism." We say "is autistic."

Personally I agree with you. I always used to say "was autistic" until an administrater where I work corrected me one day about a year or two ago and said that the socially acceptable phrase is "suffering from autism." I then had to make a point to say "suffering from autism" all of the time because I didn't want to offend any of the children's parents. I think that this would be a good topic for the Autism board, though. I think that ultimately, those who have autism should be the ones making the call.

A few people have asked me when I've used it so I figured I'd better add:

GID - Gender Identity Disorder (I used to say Dysphoria but I've been corrected - GID is the cause, GD is the symptom)

GD - Gender Dysphoria - which can be a symptom of other MIs, not just GID

When my son has had enough of people, and needs to decompress, he says he needs to "sperg out" for a while.

We think that is not only very clever, but pretty mature for a guy who used to refuse to admit he had Asperger's.

Cookiekins The Noobiest Noob on the Board, a little dizzy at the moment from an increase in her Venlafaxine scrip.
