WTF?  Seriously.  They are all smoking cigs and drinking alcohol... but when reefers come to town MURDER HAPPENS!  They claim reefers were the cause and weed is the most dangerous drug... worse than heroin!

I have to ask, what is the worst thing you have ever seen someone do on pot?  I'm interested in crazy people as well as "sane" people.  From what I have seen it actually tends to make violent people chill out... unless alcohol is involved.

Worst thing I ever saw was some guy get all excited watching a porn flick and... well... flick...

Reefer Madness <insert Butthead laugh> "play it faster, play it faster!"

The thing about bein on the weed is it makes me stooooooooopid. I already have ADD, so can't remember shit, and when I smoke pot? Forget it. I started smoking pot in 1974, yes, dinosaurs roamed the earth. It really was like that movie "Dazed and Confused."

The worst thing I do on weed is nothing. And I did nothing for many years. Then it got too expensive, I couldn't get high enough no matter how much I smoked so I said fuck it. Now, I don't even have a preference for it. When my crazymeds are on the job, which is on/off kind of thing, I feel pretty good without any other chemicals. But I'm getting old too.

God, I haven't seen that movie in 20 years. Thanks for the memory!

The worst thing I've ever seen a stoner do... When I waited tables in this dive of a greasy spoon diner these giggling teens came in and ordered nachos, milkshakes, french fries, cake, it was like a comedy skit.  They ordered all the junk on the menu and ate it.  Then they asked if I would pay the bill myself since they FORGOT their money.  I bartered with them and took all their hemp jewelery.  I also got a bag of lucky marbles.

I think drunk people are much more terrifying than stoners any day.

pretty much what I thought...

good thing I can walk to any store and pick up alcohol but will get tossed in jail for a bowls worth of weed...

I would love to put together a site where stoners post up experiences, see how many positive and how many negative... but I probably wouldn't get any posts!  I have heard "legalize marijuana" since I first heard about it and I don't expect it to change anytime soon... but it still amazes me!

The best part about that movie is how revved up it makes them when they smoke it.

They look like they're freebasing for chrissake.

Actually, they smoke weed about like we used to smoke cigarettes in high school when we didn't wanna get caught.

Worst I've ever seen anyone do on weed that wasn't laced was puke their guts out for half a day. Prolly an allergic reaction to the weed, the paper, or the fertilizer used to grow the weed, though.

Not that I've ever done a lot of weed, but...

T%he original "Reffer Madness" was done to make people *scared* of weed.  I.e., it'll turn into some crazy mofo, like crack or meth would.

Truth be damned.  They just didn't want anyone tokin' up.

Which is fine, I jus wish they'd approached it *hoenstly*.  But that was long ago.

I'd like to see the latest remake of it, being a movie and not so much a PSA, but I probably won't get around to *that* for awhile now.

Have you been to Erowid Hands down the best drug legal and illegal resource place on the web. They are to dope fiends what CB is to nutters. Plus, lots of good info to about legal drugs. But if you want to know how to get high on nutmeg, go there. My ex did that. He ate all kinds of herbs and spices, he was an alky. Settled on Kava Kava. They get into more dangerous stuff, but the web site itself is awesomely designed and very navigable (is that the word), check it out.

yeah it is a funny movie, thinking that yes it is just to scare people.  i think marijuana should be legal.  the illegality of marijuana is really the reason why MI people should avoid it, since otherwise its harmless compared to alcohol.  but like cigarettes it can mess up your lungs and contribute to lung cancer if you smoke pot your whole life, so certainly i dont think anyone should smoke daily.  plus if you are likely to mellow out and get lazy, you might not appreciate that you wasted time when you get sober.  and if you find you cant do life anymore without smoking, it might just be masking the need for a lifestyle change or a med change, since self-medication with illegal drugs is a form of escape.  i think anyone who is depressed should get treatment whether they are smoking or not.  too many people who are dysthymic write this off and abuse substances.

just my thoughts on it.

;) I would post for you!  I consider myself a guinea pig, having smoked daily for the last 15+ yrs. of my life.  Meanwhile, I am in a healthy marraige, have had the same job for over 10 years as the boss, my financials are all in order, I own my car and my house and I budget weed into my paychecks.  I say that is good enough proof for me that it can be quite positive for some of us.

The '36 version of Reefer Madness was a hoot and a midnight movie cult hit when I was a teenager.

I do think pot, like any psychotropic substance, affects people differently. The most extreme instance I witnessed personally was my then-SO, a talented artist, get so crazy to have some pot when he was out that he was willing to trade away a major painting he'd been working on for months for a single joint. Seriously.

I'd never done well on it myself. Basically put down when I was 13, then would try it again every 3-5 years till I was in my early 20s. Each time was a reminder of why I shouldn't do it. This was back in the days when pot was much, much weaker than what is available now, and I still got completely nuts when stoned. One of the last times, I ended up in the middle of the night in a boyfriend's closet, throwing his shoes at him, and screaming "Aging faggot shoes!" with each toss.

Even when it wasn't quite that bad, I'd be itchy, paranoid, not having a lot of  fun, and unable to do the simplest things. Needless to say, I never found it *relaxing*.

See, and I rarely drink anymore because it makes me feel like shit the whole next day.  Therefore, you wouldn't use pot and I wouldn't use alcohol... and I wouldn't face jail time for making my decision.

I've seen people go crazy on sugar too....

Oh, I agree with you completely on this. And the federal government's fight against medical marijuana -- for god's sakes -- drives me nuts!

I just don't think that pot is an entirely benign drug; from my standpoint no "psychotropic substance" is, which is why I said that. Alcohol included. My only point is a pedestrian one, that it effects people differently, and that to say it is entirely harmless is incorrect. I don't think the concept of harmlessness was part of your original question. However, I've heard that argument many times, and I don't think it's true. Any assumption that any psychotropic substance is entirely benign is simply not true.

You asked "what is the worst thing you have ever seen someone do on pot?", so I answered. Of the two examples I gave, I think my ex-SO's trading his painting away for a joint was far worse. And yes, he could've been an alkie jonesing for a fifth, but in this case he was a pot-head jonesing for a joint. It happens.

But, I don't think there's really any disagreement here re: the "evils" of marijuana. Reefer Madness was propaganda, through and through, about the "menace" of marijuana. Which is what makes it so hysterically funny! Consider some of the taglines for the film:

* Women Cry For It - Men Die For It!

* The Sweet "Pill" That Makes Life BITTER!

* Drug Crazed Abandon!

* It's Public Enemy, Number One!

That's the hoot of watching this movie, that it was so overtly insane!

I agree with y'all here about the stupidity of marijuana criminalization.  If MJ's criminalized, so should alcohol and caffeine.  Not that I'd be too happy if either of those were criminalized, either. <dorkage>Cannabinoid receptor stimulation, in almost everybody (save the MI), is a pretty innocent thing.  GABA (alcohol), D1/D2 (alcohol and caffeine), and adrenergic (caffeine) receptors? Those can have deep physical and mental effects and lead to physical addiction, something that MJ can't because our nervous systems are ridiculously slow to downregulate cannabinoid receptor activity in response to chronic use.</dorkage>  Layman's terms? Alcohol and caffeine cause more physical damage, cause permanent physical changes in the brain, and are physically addictive.  MJ only possesses a psychological addiction when one's used to the high it brings.

However, myself, I wouldn't touch marijuana with a 10-foot pole, just because <dorkage> excess activation of the cannabinoid receptors has been known to aggravate or even precipitate psychotic behavior </dorkage>.  Plus, those Poles rarely grow to 10 feet tall and I'd have to fly them in from Poland.
