Has anyone here experienced muscle twitching on an anti-psychotic? For me it started while on Seroquel.

If yes, did you discontinue the drug? Did the twitching go away? Any info is much appreciated!

Yes, I did.. on Risperdal.. my eye would twitch and then my upper lip it was soo annoying , it wasn't very noticeable to people but I felt it a lot during the day, it subsided after a few months. So , yes.. I did stay on the drug, because it wasn't terrible but if it is bothering you , def tell your pdoc . :)

What worries me is that it only started after about a year of taking it. Could this be some kind of form of TD? I'm so freaked out about this I want to start tapering down tonight. :(

I twitch from just about every med I take with Tegretol being the worst offender. Yes, I twitch from Abilify too. Before diagnosing yourself with TD see a doctor who knows what TD is and has seen cases of it before. He/She should be able to put your mind at ease. My understanding is that TD is more about gross muscle movements like puckering, sticking out the tongue, etc. rather than twitching.

You might want to hold off on that until you speak with your pdoc. Could you call them tomorrow and see what their advice is?

I took my normal dose, even though I'm super anxious about this. I'm trying to hold on until I see pdoc on Tuesday morning. I doubt he'd respond before then... he'll probably just think this is all OCD.

@jt07 He said the chance is around 10%, which from my perspective is pretty damn high. But he seemed to think this came with long term use, like 10-15 years on APs. He is convinced one day I'll be stable enough to go off meds entirely. I guess I'll just have to hope he's right.

@aura So he doesn't think the twitching is TD? If not, that is good news. That 10% number depends on a lot of factors including length of time on meds, doses, and on the actual antipsychotics involved. I wouldn't worry too much about it. I'm also guessing that 10% includes the typicals as well which have a higher rate of TD than the atypicals. Furthermore, you can look at it this way: there is a 90% chance that you will never get TD.

The OCD part of my brain hears "10%" and thinks "100%." :-/

I know that feeling :( OCD there is no rationalizing. .. but think about this maybe in 10-15 years that is a long time to be on 1 AAP, plus you could be on a few other AAP's that may not have that effect on you for each one.
