I was just prescribed this today at my pdoc appointment and I'd just like to get an idea of what to expect. I've read the side effects, but what's common for you? I'm going on 0.25 mg at night along with my current rx

I took Risperdal up to 4 mg, and I got zero side effects. It was like taking a sugar pill. I would expect that at 0.25 mg you will experience few, if any at all, side effects.

There was a point in my life when I was very down and without any goals in life, and Risperdal put my life back on track. I am grateful to Risperdal for that.

I was prescribed Risperdal a few years ago and my first dose was .25mg .. I didn't have any side effects except I just was very sleepy after I took it and my boobs got bigger no joke haha. It helped me and I got up to .75mg but I had to stop because my Prolactin levels were up in my bloodwork. And then I had to switch to Seroquel.

And Risperdal never made me gain weight! I hope the drug works out for you!

Risperdal was very effective for me in terms of squashing my mania, but it caused my prolactin levels to rise and this was very uncomfortable for me. I actually started lactating. It's too bad, because it's otherwise a great drug.

  • 4 months later...

I took risperdal for 17 straight years. At the beginning it was ok at age 11. Then about 9 months later before I turn 12 I passed out in the office, then at age 15 started bad with back pain throughout the medicine. Then age 16, 17, my brain is starting to get tiggering with my seizure medication. 18 and part of 19 I end up getting seizures because of it and my neurologist did everything increase the dosage on the seizure medication and end up with new seizure medication. After that more side effects happening after that 22 with aggressive behavior, and sucidial thoughts. But the thoughts stop once in a while. Then at 25 I started to forget more memories and getting headaches, at 26 I got consipated and neck pain and some sexual drive effect. Till last month my heart rate was slowing down and feeling dizzy and my headaches got worse when I hear a loud noise. It hurt my eyes. Since I stop taking it 2 days ago. I'm more calmer, controllable behavior and anger, my memories are coming back, no more back or neck pain. No more having a hard time going to the restroom. Now my sleeping is not tiring and able to sleep in one position like I used to. No more headaches. My eating is more patient now than getting choked like before. Controlling my language now and temper. My heart rate and pluse is getting back to normal. And my voice is not hoarse after the symptoms went away

This medication I think is one of the few I am on that makes a difference I am on 4mg and have had no side effects. It has calmed my obsessive thoughts some or my therapist feels it has I don't send her constant texts just obsessing over the same stuff the round and round. So overall helpful for me but everyone has different experiences

Agree with everyone, never felt side effects although I seemed to have an easier time getting to sleep at night, but if I accidentally skipped a dose I could take it during the day and be fine. I maxed out at 3mg, but pdoc didn't like my prolactin levels, so had to drop it.

It's also a fast-acting med, I remember when I first started my head cleared and voices lowered within three days.

And I don't recommend skipping doses, at least for me within 24 hours I would be having cold sweats. Not fun. But don't let that scare you, it's a great med.
