Savannah
I am bipolar but have problems with paranoia and usually think mental health people want to hospitalize me thinking I can't take care of myself. I also put tin foil on my windows so they can't see me. It only goes away at a high level of prolixin. Then scale down to a lower dose for maintenance. I have been off of it for 3 months and the feelings have started back. I will call my pdoc on Monday. does anyone have the time to onset and half life? I couldn't find it online. melissaw72
Idk any answers to your questions, but thought I'd throw out there if you've ever tried the prolixin shot or not. The pills didn't work for me. Right after the shot, for me it was mainly voices but could be for other things as well, and it was an immediate reaction. It worked great for about 2 weeks, then slowly as it wore off, closer to the end of the month, I started to become symptomatic. I only took it for a month because I wanted to change to pill form ... but that never really helped me, so pdoc took me off of it.
notloki
Prolixin is not a top shelf choice, it has a significant rate of EPS and movement problems. It's main advantage is it has a long acting injection plus being cheap. It is a low potency typical antipsychotic so there are lots of choices out there, both by pill and injection. I would want to explore other options.
mikl_pls
Fluphenazine's oral half-life is 14.7 to 15.3 hours (source: Epocrates). Tmax = about 2.8 hours, but that doesn't necessarily correlate its onset of therapeutic action, which I can't comment on for sure. Prolixin is actually a high potency antipsychotic; as a matter of fact, it's dosed on a 1:1 ratio with Haldol. 12 hours ago, Savannah said: It only goes away at a high level of prolixin. Then scale down to a lower dose for maintenance. When you say "high levels," how high are you saying (what dosage?) And what is your typical maintenance dose? Do you ever have any problems with extrapyramidal symptoms like akathisia, tremor, Parkinsonsism, slowed movement, etc.? Any prolactin elevation? Savannah
Thank you for the info. I took 20mg yesterday and today. It hasn't yet done much but I know it will. It has always helped in the past and I know it will eventually kick in. I also take seroquel and geodon and have been on the 3 of them together for years but went off of it to avoid td suggested by my pdoc.
