tommy215
Hey guys, so I'm pretty well versed in psychopharma-babble but this one has me stumped. I'm currently on 150mg of imipramine(Tofranil) and it simply is not doing what I need it to for my social anxiety. I know a few of you are taking MAOI's, and I think it's time I dipped my toes into the pool. I've read anywhere from 1 week to 3 weeks for a true washout period before starting a med like Nardil or Parnate. Does anyone have experience doing a washout? Was there any "bridge" medications you used during that time? Thanks in advance, I know this is like a REALLY specific question.
mikl_pls
Generally they say 2 weeks, but I think you can do 1 week with TCAs. It all depends on what your pdoc says though. I had Adderall, an atypical antipsychotic (Vraylar I think), and Zonegran as bridge medications, maybe more. I continued to take the Adderall with my MAOI. I've also switched MAOI to MAOI and done a cross taper from one to the other rather than a complete washout (Emsam to Parnate).
tommy215
Thanks mikl_pls! I appreciate your feedback. I go tomorrow so I'll post an update as to what my pdoc decides.
Geek
My pdoc re-introduced Abilify to my cocktail as I tapered off Effexor (no discontinuation syndrome), did the washout and then started Parnate.
