From seroquel to zyprexa

I've been using a small dose of seroquel (25-50mg) nightly for sleep for around ten years. It has now stopped working. Every time I've tried to stop it I go into intense insomnia and withdrawal. My Doc has order 2.5-5mg zyprexa to replace the seroquel. Has any body experienced this protocol and is there going to be seroquel w/d when I switch.

I'm not even sure if its possible to have withdrawal when switching from seroquel to zyprexa, but it is definitely highly unlikely.

Both are strong antihistamines (it's assumed the antihistamine accounts for the sedation in both AAP's) so you should be fine.

I hope zyprexa helps you sleep. In my experience, zyprexa wakes me up and I have to take it in the morning. But I think I'm a bit of an odd case.

Thanks for the replies. The zyprexa at 2.5mg has worked great for sleep. There was no w/d from quitting seroquel. Only issue is feeling tired and not with it during the day. Hopefully, this will resolve itself with time.

I felt very flat on Zyprexa. Once it was raised to 5mg I was very hungry and gained a lot of weight.

I'm with @mcjimjam. Zyprexa was great for sleep. It helped a lot with my intrusive/compulsive thoughts and settled my mind. But my blood sugar, triglycerides, and weight all went straight up in less than 3 months. Switched to loxapine. 10mg has worked just as well for me as 5mg of Zyprexa. I take it all at night and have no issues during the day. Also lost all the weight I gained on Zyprexa
