PBF
Just curious about what mood stabs people are on. Which are the most popular? PBF
Rabbit37
The depakote is "eh" so far, no problems, no grand effects. Still at a low dose on Lamictal, so don't know. Love Risperdal.
seven
Lamictal's my fave. but I also take Lithium...probably the heavy lifter in my regimen. So, I guess I'm an ingrate.
sepia
Lithium. No mania since lithium. Hypomania, yes. Comparatively mild depression, yes. Flatness, occasional. Very much so at the beginning. Still helpful overall.
Dweii
Lithium (at a pretty low dose, blood level around 0.5) and Lamictal (300 mg). Seems to be a good combination for me. But I still need my beloved Fluanxol.
InfoNut
2000/day of Depekote seems to do the trick, although the effects seem like they may be weakening. Seem to be taking some dips in mood that, while not nearly as bad, are still more than they were when I started the Dep. Hmm
Mechante
I'm on Lithium 1200mg and Lamictal 200mg. I want to get off the Lamictal though.
Thomas
I am on Abilify as a mood stabilizer, but my new pdoc will probably change that.
invictus61101
Seroquel I guess, but it doesn't really stabilize my mood (that I remember). It just mostly keeps me from hallucinating and hearing things.
Beth
It got to the point where I couldn't tell the difference between being on the Lamictal or off of it. So instead of upping the dosage, I was given Seroquel. That fixed me right up. So though I liked the Lamictal in the beginning, I've got to go with Seroquel. Anelize
LOL. All of the above? Seriously. I'm on Seroquel, Topamax, and Lamictal. You couldn't get me to give any of them up, and I couldn't pick one's efficacy over the other--each one works on a particular facet of my disease. Atsiv
I take Seroquel and Lamictal.
Min
trileptal. pretty much tegretol without the side effects though.
gballsout
seroquel for the mania lamictal for the ups and dips depakote for the real swings (but I hate it...making my hair fall out!!) abilify.........which when I first took it was magic and lifted me out of depression and controlled the ups, now I want more!! that's all my meds, all stabilizers. and yet I still had a meltdown last week. well, I was trying to get off depakote b/c of the hair thing and then had a manic episode (quickly squashed by seroquel) and the super-badness of last week. guess I'll have to go bald. firedancer
I love my Lamictal - minor ups and downs, some hypomania - but that is ok - I need that to get things done. I love my Seroquel - no voices/noises and I can sleep!
unipolarbear
I agree with the poll -- Lamictal is the best as long as you can get past the rash-stage. I'm on 150mg and that works just great. I've never been on the old school stuff. I'm very thankful for my pdoc as she is only using the newer/atypical meds on me and they've all worked well. YMMV, though. (I just learned what that means ) Also, I have been St John's wort for 10+ years. Every time I would run out or go off of it, I would invariably experience intense panic attacks. So I'm never going to go off of it again. I had been on zyprexa for my mania, but it makes me too much of a sloth. So now we're on to Abilify. I'm titrating up and it works great for my anxiety and paranoia. I'm very thnkful for my pdoc
Maddy
Topamax is really what's worked best for me. But I have alot of temporal lobe issues too.
blackmilk
Lamictal is my fave because it is very effective and has few side effects for me. Lithium is a real workhorse - the backbone of my cocktail - but the side effects are much worse. - k

italianchick
Ok I'll admit it, i'm a lithium lover.. haha I'm on 900 mg on even days and 750 mg on odd days.. pretty low level of 0. 6 and that's it.. Was on Zyprexa after hospitalization but briefly.. maybe 8 months? The lithium works pretty well for me.. will get slightly hypomanic and also depressed for a few days here and there but other than that it's great!! fred-c
400mg lamictal and 7.5 mg of abilify. I'm not great. Just ok.
ncc1701
Heya PBF, I love my Lamictal. Thinking about lithium adjunct, though, despite my bloodwork-a-phobia. --ncc--
Tiredofit
lithium 1800mgs /day with varying degrees of success. I've had to supplement it with Risperdal 3mg occasionally but that also eventually made my anxiety worse which made me up my dose of Xanax to 3 mg day and then I had to swallow a cat to eat the rat and a dog to eat the cat... well, that's where I am now. ncc1701
i take Equetro, but i liked Lamictal better...but i'm stable so i shouldn't complain. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> WTF is the generic for Equetro? Just curious. Likely I won't have it to give out until 2010. --ncc--
ncc1701
Heya motorgrrl, Thanks. I was too curious not to ask, but too lazy to look it up --ncc--
lost one
2,500 mg Depakote ER. This is the first mood stablizer I tried. I'm not radically up and down anymore but am usually grumpy or depressed. Still hopeless too.
robotlove29
Wait...Zyprexa and Seroquel are mood stabilizers???? I thought those were atypicals......
ncc1701
Heya robotlove29, Atypicals are second-line mood stabilizers. Really, first-line in acute mania. They can even (in a pinch) be half-decent sedatives. --ncc--
groovyone
I love Topamax too and I'm on it monotherapy for bipolar so I must be a temporal lobe kinda gal too. Presumably...? Although I do need an adjunct for seizure control. I was always curious about Lamictal but we yanked it after I had some seizure related weirdness. At the time, I don't think anyone suspected it was seizure-y stuff but later I figured it out. I was ADs as well and that probably threw my threshold into the basement and I was still on a titrating dose of Lamictal...so I kind of never really got to find out if it could have helped or not. Hmmm. Oh well. Topamax it is. Karen
sammykat76
I was on Depakote for awhile and it just made me sleepy. I've been on Lamictal for about 9 months now and it seems to be doing the job, although my doc keeps raising the dose. I'm up to 200mg a day now. I was on Risperdal but it knocks me on my ass. My doc insists I take it, but I told her to go jump off a clif.
ocd-man
Trileptal 1200 but I am coming down on it. I also take 20 of Abilify.
whatsgoingon
Tegretol and Zyprexa. Though Depakote is possibly on the horizon, in addition to the T and Z.
