When do you think abilify starts to work? I know it varies from person to person, but is there a "theraputic dose" or one that generally starts to take effect?

Also has anybody here had one of those ideal "this medication saved my life" stories about abilify? If so, I would like to hear those:)

Thx

Abilify only started to work for me once I hit 10 mg, and it took about 8 weeks total to work. YMMV

While I can't say that Abilify saved my life (that distinction belongs to Tegretol for me), Abilify did help me immensely with depression. It has been the only med that has helped my anhedonia and lack of motivation and gave me back an interest in life.

It took me 7 weeks to the day at 30 mg, for me to feel the effects of it.  I'm still on it and it is a good med for me.  On a lower dose now though, and still it is really helping me out.

YMMV though.

It is different with people ... I looked it up and found that the doses can be different depending on your diagnosis:

https://www.drugs.com/dosage/abilify.html

^^ I had no idea it could be different for different diagnoses until I read this article above.

Also, people metabolize it differently, which could effect the dose also.  And other meds taken at the same time might effect the dose as well.

IIRC, for me I was told by pdoc that 30 mg is the max, although I was on 45 mg at one time (which I have no idea why he went over the limit).

I felt a difference within the first week. I have been on it 3 weeks now. It has really turned things around for me! I have had some trouble sleeping and constipation, but I can deal with it. I have been so much less depressed and more functional since starting it. I take 5mg, for now.

It was hard for me to determine when aripiprazole started working for me. My depression was already being covered. I just started being more out going, I was helping around the house more, walking the dog. Just being more reliable as a person. And that feels great. I started on 10 mg and we're aiming at 20 mg, probably the end of next week. I hope I don't get any side effects. It is a pretty clean drug in comparison to the others out there.

This is what my experience with starting Abilify has been like to. Also I am waking up at a normal time rather than sleeping half the day. I am more motivated too.
