tapering issues..is this in my head?

Recommended Posts

So  basically I've been tapering for the past three months after 8 years of taking either Xanax or klonopin daily.

I went from 1 MG of Xanax each day to .5 of klonopin for a month and had no issues.

Then I went from .5 to .25 for a month and only felt a little agitated for 2-3 days.

Then I went from .25 to .125 for a month and had no issues.

I took my last pill this past Saturday at 5 pm so I've been off for roughly 6 whole days. At first I didn't notice anything except I fell asleep really hard. But I've been feeling sweaty, dizzy and nauseated for the past 2 and like im in a daze. I feel so weird and I'm just so very confused. I know some people will say that even that small of an amount can cause withdrawal symptoms but I never really felt any on my other drops and I definitely stabilized before the last drop.

I have events this weekend and I'm tempted to take a .125 to get through them without being sick but I don't want to go back on my progress.

Has anyone every experienced a moderate level of withdrawal symptoms from coming off a similar dose?? Is it possibly just in my head bc I know I'm not taking it? Would taking .125 tonight and tomorrow throw my progress off completely?

I guess I'm just looking for support and similar experiences. Thanks!

Are you sure you are not coming down with illness? I have never had issues getting off benzos, so I can't share that experience with you, but I am answering to say that if you took 0.125 mg of Klonopin tonight and again tomorrow, it wouldn't throw anything off. If you feel you need it to get through tonight and tomorrow and if it has been prescribed to you then I say go for it. You won't lose progress.

Congratulations on making it this far!

I suppose I could be. I dont know it's been a full two days and I don't seem to have any other symptoms developing.

I think I'm putting a lot pressure on myself to not take it because I don't want to feel defeated or something but I might try it tonight to see if it helps and then just make a plan for the rest of the week+ to get through whatever I'm going through.

Oh and thank you for your response!

I suppose the best way to check is just take a small dosage and see if your symptoms go away, then you'll know that it's the withdrawal.

You won't be defeated just taking it once or twice to see...you were on it for 8 years and look how far you've come....Being realistic, you'll still have it nearby and likely take it again in the future during acute anxiety/panic...which is no biggy.

Just a follow up

I did take .125 on Friday and then on Sunday and my symptom eased greatly.

I am not sure what to do now. I'd really like a clean slate so I can take the medication only for panic attacks and not have any long term effects. But I don't know how to stop if that's what stopping is like for me. I'm an engineer and my job is pretty serious? I can't be unfocused/sick/etc.

I wish I could break my klonopin in halves. :(

Benzos are so so addicting...possibly the most addicting thing I've ever done.  When I was first having panic attacks I remember looking forward to that escape from anxiety every night before bed.

I'm actually tapering off Ativan the same way you are and I get issues all day.  However, I get side effects all day on them as well.

That's about where I am, I have to drive for a living, so I don't like to be too sedated.

It's good drugs for anxiety though, no doubt.  But as far as Benzo, I like to have one on me, but not take it daily.
