wookie
I have been taking Ativan almost daily recently. I will be seeing my pdoc in another 2 weeks. Is it bad to take it daily? I don't have melt down panic attacks but I do get skaky and nervous. I feel like it just takes the edge of my anxiety and lets me relax while I'm working. Is this appropriate use or is there something else better. I suffer from essential tremors as well. Also getting rechecked on that issue this Thursday. CrazyRedhead
@wookie, Does your pdoc know you're taking it almost every day?.....IMO, if pdoc says it's okay, then don't worry so much. I've been taking Klonopin daily for 4 years. Edited July 2, 2017 by CrazyRedhead

I've been taking Klonopin daily for 4 years. This was pretty much what I was going to say. I don't think it's a bad thing. I've been taking Klonopin twice a day for like 5 years as well. Wonderful.Cheese
If your Dr says it's ok then I also think it's ok. I've been taking klonopin daily in varying doses higher or lower for probably 10 years now I'd say. I don't function without it. I become housebound. BrianOCD
It's fine. Don't overdo it and get your PDoc's advice. I've been on and off Ativan for years. Took it for 6 months at one point. Only thing to be concerned about is the withdrawals of benzos are rather harsh... Edited July 6, 2017 by BrianOCD
Alien Navel Cord
My pdocs (more than 1) have all told me at one point or another "whatever it takes for you to feel comfortable, go for it. If you need to take one everyday, do so, but call and make an appointment." Sound advice, I'd say.
BrianOCD
It arguable that the longer you stay on a benzo the better your stress levels and anxiety will be in the long run. I typically try to come off them TOO quickly. My General Doctor explained that it takes time for your mind and stress to settle and that Ativan and benzos simply help you get there faster. thunder
Like the others have said, if your pdoc is okay with it, then there is nothing inherently wrong with taking it daily. However, if this is a recent and substantial change from how often you've needed it in the past, it may be a sign that something is up, and there may be a more effective strategy, such as changing one of your other meds. For me, if I'm taking ativan more than a couple times a week it either means I'm hypomanic and trying to calm down, or I'm depressed and trying to numb that. So my doc is fine with me keeping taking it while I need it until we get something else in place.
notloki
I don't like good and bad as descriptors, they are too general. And after all it is mostly what people do with the meds but not the meds themselves that gets people into trouble most times.
