effexor or ssri + wellbutrin?

I am wondering what would be a better option, effexor or an ssri like lexapro and wellbutrin?

It really depends on what you are treating.

Wellbutrin primarily works on dopamine, whereas effexor only affects dopamine reuptake at high doses;  effexor primarily is an SNRI, working on serotonin and noradrenaline.

In other words, you cant really compare the two, because the lexapro/wellbutrin combo effectively does not work on noradrenaline reuptake inhibition.  You would have to add something like strattera or reboxetine to the lex and wellbutrin combo to compare it with a high dose of effexor, say 300mg+, and even then its horses for courses, if you know what I mean.

I'd say for most people lex + wellbutrin would be a more stimulating combo than effexor, whicj would tend to be sedating for most people, so the former might be great for someone who is really depressed without severe anxiety, and the latter would be more appropriate for an anxiety disorder with depression.
