Double L
I have recently been approved for ssi, about $700 a month. Has anybody here lived on ssi? Can you tell me what the lifestyle is like?
CrazyRedhead
@Double L, I am on SSDI, and I receive somewhat more than what you're getting..... Hopefully, somebody on SSI will stop by soon and give you some answers. Meanwhile, here's an older thread about folks on SSI, that might give you some insight: Edited July 23, 2017 by CrazyRedhead
Savannah
I am on SSDI but have a friend on SSI that has talked about living on SSI. she was determined to make it work after living on the streets. She found a room in a house with 3 roommates for $250 and then they split utilities. She got the free government phone and used food pantrys and thrift shops for clothes (and she was always dressed nice). She had Medicaid so she saw a pdoc at the county and got free meds.she also road the buss everywhere. she went to school at the community college white she got free tuition from the state of California as well as $200 book voucher each semester. She was also eligible for financial aid which gave her about $3,000/year is she went to school full time and kept an C average. she has since completed her BS and is seeking a job.
