Serotonin Syndrome is rare and usually not caused by a single agent. If it were everyone who OD'ed on their SSRI's or other serotonin affecting med would get it, and this does not happen. Unless is is a neurologist diagnosing it I am very suspicious of this diagnosis.

Dr. Ken Gillman is considered the expert on Serotonin Syndrome (SS or ST). Most of the key papers on SS were written by him. He is, IIRC a toxicologist and psychiatrist. Now retired he maintains the pages http://psychotropical.info/1-introduction-to-st devoted to SS and his papers. Not sure if he still does but he used to give short consults for free via Skype. He is a big MAOI antidepressant advocate, having treated many with MAOI's.
