Risperdal - Has anybody experienced this?

I'm currently on the lowest dose of Risperdal for severe OCD.  Not long after I started taking it, I nearly fainted in class and had to go home for the day.  The dizziness came on very quickly, and my vision started to turn black (to put it simply.  The effect is hard to describe)  I could hardly hear what people were saying, and the event lasted for a very short amount of time.  I felt nauseous, and my stomach was in a lot of pain.

Is this a common side effect of Risperdal (assuming it was caused by this particular drug)?  If so, has anybody else had a similar experience with this medication?

I don't know about the stomach problems, but the dizziness and blackouts sound a lot like when I get orthostatic hypotension which is a side effect of many psych meds. I suggest you do as iceberg said: contact your doctor.

Agree, please call your dr. Did want to ask, are you taking it at the same time every day? I loved risperdal, but it is horrible if you skip a dose. Cold sweats, dizziness, yes. It has a short half life.

Are you taking it in the morning or night? Yes, contact your pdoc.

I agree with @jt07 in that it sounds like orthostatic hypotension. You should definitely contact your pdoc to make sure it isn't something else. If it is orthostatic hypotension, you might see some relief by slowly standing up from a resting position.
