Amethyst674
I am trying to figure out the culprit for my daily panic attacks. I am not sure if its the Geodon or the Zoloft that is causing it. I have been in the ER 3 times already. I am going to try to see my PDOC this week and see what she recommends.
mmaryland
Zoloft can cause panic attack reactions in the beginning of treatment, but if you have been on it for a while I can't see why it would all of a sudden start giving you panic attacks, unless your dosage got increased or you recently added the Geodon. Do you have any medication for panic attacks, such as Klonopin or Xanax? Might be helpful until you can figure what is causing it. I was on Latuda (lurasidone) which is similar to Geodon (ziprasidone) and didn't experience any panic attacks from it (or relief of bipolar mania/depression) but it did make me feel on edge quite a bit, not necessarily a panic attack but my nerves were bad and I was anxious about a 5/6 out of 10, but this is about the usual anxiety level for me. Hopefully you can find out what's going on sooner rather than later! Good luck and keep us posted, I'm anxious for you to see what is really causing these panic attacks for you. Best wishes! Amethyst674
Thank you. I wake up everyday and I take a mg of Xanax. I am scared and anxious. I am really getting scared that I could wind up in the looney bin. I feel anxious all day long. I have d/c the zoloft till I can talk to my PDOC and see what is going on. mmaryland
@Amethyst674 Are you only taking 1mg of Xanax once per day? How is it helping? If you are still having problems throughout the day and you cannot take any additional Xanax, maybe an increase to 2x daily or splitting the 1mg dose to 0.5mg twice a day could help. Klonopin, a longer acting benzodiazepine, might be more helpful since it could last all day long (hopefully) or even Valium as it is even longer acting. Did you cold turkey the zoloft? If so, i would not advise you to do that just because of the withdrawal side effects/"discontinuation effects" and this might have the potential to cause additional panic attacks. I would only d/c zoloft under the care of your P doc, or at least do a slow taper to eliminate any symptoms from withdrawal you might experience. Amethyst674
I am taking about 3 mg of xanax per day. I was on a low dose of zoloft. I have the long acting xanax xr 2 mg.
mmaryland
Oh ok gotcha, I used to have the XR 2mg, but didn't find they worked as well as the regular ones. Have you already tried dosing 1mg three times daily, or is it too much of a hassle/forgetting to take a dose, etc.?

Iceberg
What about Xanax ODT? Kicks in really fast to help with drawn out panic attacks
Amethyst674
I was in the psych ward for 3 days and they switched me to clonopin 1 mg bid and celexa. No change to the Geodon. I feel agitated still but thats probably the xanax withdrawal.
mmaryland
Weird that Xanax withdrawal would persist since youre still on 3mg Klonopin a day, it shouldnt be contributing too much to what you are experiencing. Maybe the change needs to be to Geodon, I mean has this ever been a discussion between you and your doc? So many other AAPs out there, Lauda is pretty similar to Geodon, only taken once a day, and might not have the side effects as Latuda. There are newer antipsychotics out "third generation" that have much fewer side effects, minus Abilify, but you could give Rexulti or Vraylar a try. Both are great for MDD, Bipolar depression, and Vraylar is especially helpful for acute mania.
