Latuda-Morning or evening? And Latuda vs vraylar?

Recommended Posts

My pdoc wants me to try latuda as an add on to my AD. She wants me to try 20mg and has stated 40mg is probably as high as she would have me go. She said in her experience most of her patients take it in the evening as they find it somewhat sedating. But I've also read posts about how people take it in the morning because it gives them insomnia. I'm guessing this might be dose dependent. And as with everything crazy meds, may vary from person to person. Just wanted to get some experiences from people on the 20-40mg on when they found the best time to take it.

She also mentioned vraylar and was pretty clear that this one is stimulating and most people take it in the morning. Thoughts from people who have taken both? Which did you like better? Both are crazy expensive(though latuda should be going generic sometime this year) but I can do mail order with my insurance and it's like $110 for a 90 day supply, which is pretty reasonable. Thanks!

Im on seroquel and vraylar

I am on the same cocktail. I dont find Vraylar to be activating at all though and I am at 3mg.

Latuda as prescribed to me previously at 40mg and I was told to take at bedtime because it would help with sleep. Well it did not and also made me very depressed for a week so i got off that pretty damn quick. The difference lies in the pharmacology of the 2 drugs. Vraylar can be considered a 3rd generation antipsychotic because it is a partial agonist, while Latuda is just an atypical antipsychotic with no partial agonism activity. Vraylar also is not sedating, or activating, in my experience. It is pretty neutral, oh and it works super fast for acute mania, like within 3-4 days, its amazing. I prefer it over Rexulti, which was amazing for bipolar depression as well, not so much mania. Latuda is more for bipolar depression as well, whereas Vraylar is indicated for acute mania, but it does have substantial antidepressant effects.

Funny funny how it’s activating for some and not others . Pdoc says it’s activating fwiw

I've now stopped taking mt Vraylar the past month and the last 8 days I have been experiencing manic symptoms and not sleeping unless I increased my dosage of Seroquel to 400mg or 500mg. I am, tomorrow, restarting Vraylar at 1.5 mg. I have many samples and different dosages so I planning to take 1.5mg for the first 2 days, then up it to 3mg and if symptoms don't improve withing 2-3 weeks I'll see ask my p.doc if we should increase or switch to something else. But I have hope for Vraylar and the next weeks I will post an update of how I am doing, how the Vryalar is working and if my mania symptoms have subsided.

I was on 120mg (yes, 120) of Latuda.  Definitely took it at night as it was a very sedating.  Due to the increased doseage, I started having involuntary muscle movements, spasms..ie, biting my tongue.  We decided to move me to Vraylar.  1.5, 3,  4.5 and now 6mg.  So far, no spasms.  But I have been somewhat more aggressive and I’m worried it could be the vraylar.  I’ve been carrying quiet the attitude and I can’t find anything online about vraylar/aggression.  I’m bp1, ptsd.  Doc isn’t convinced they’re related.  Curious if anyone has had anything similar.  Thank you.
