romancandle
Has anyone been overdosed on Lamictal? What kind of issues did you have? Also, for those who have decreased Lamictal, what kinds of withdrawal symptoms am I facing? Tips? I’ve lost a ton of weight in the past year. Close to 125lbs in 15 months. Continuing to lose weight due to unknown gastrointestinal problems. While my Seroquel dosage has been massively decreased over the past year (800 to 150mg as of Friday), my Lamictal hasn’t been touched (still on 400mg). Neurological issues have hit me hard. I do have other health conditions that aren’t diagnosed yet that could be causing neurological issues, but my doctor wants to decrease it. My doc also wants to wait two weeks before decreasing my Lamictal. He likes to do things one variable at a time, so those two weeks are dedicated to the seroquel decrease. However, this is trial and error. The main reasons we’re doing the Lamictal decrease is 1) massive weight loss could be making the drug too potent, and 2) the possibility of that means we gotta decrease to rule it out as the cause of the neurological stuff for other doctors Some issues in having: feeling extremely dazed, short term memory loss, some long term memory loss (can’t remember activities from the day before very well), stuttering, trouble writing words (either writing the wrong word entirely or writing it with the letters jumbled, forgetfulness (I’ve had trouble remembering my phone number), and more. Those are the big ones. I am having other symptoms like serious muscle weakness. It causes me to feel like my body is not keeping up with my brain. I think they could be related to other undiagnosed conditions. Possible hEDS and all the related issues that effect different systems in the body that come with it. Don’t know. Things are shit right now with my insurance, so I won’t know any time soon. Maybe I should decrease the Lamictal ASAP? The symptoms are getting worse by the day. If you can help, thank you. My psych med history is weird. For some reason, medications build up in my system to a point where it’s “saturated” with the drug. It’s mainly happened when I’ve tried SSRIs and APs. I end up getting a huge increase in side effects (especially rare ones) as a result, even though I had been taking the medicine for years. So I’m still thinking being overdosed is a possibility for me. I’m not sure really. I’m gonna have to decrease my dose to get an idea.

I've been on Lamictal for 2 years now (only at 100mg ) so no symptoms you describe above. However.... About 15 years ago, I was on Lamictal (for the first time as monotherapy) and my pdoc put me up to 400mg (because he said the target dose was 200-400mg or something). At the higher doses I experienced the exact same thing: feeling dazed like a cotton-head feeling, memory issues, forgetfulness, MAJOR word finding issues, and problems with coordination and balance (I used to do all sorts of physical activities, dance, etc and this effect was quite noticeable!) I always try to take the lowest possible dose as possible to avoid intolerable side effects, I would work with your pdoc to taper down and see if things improve. I'm quite thin (48kg) is that helps any.

I had to be bumped to 400mg a few years ago due to a manic episode. Now that it’s my weight is dropping, I think I could go back to 200mg and be fine. I’m really glad you commented, because I have been worried this is a sign that my physical problems involving my spine could be worsening. There’s still a huge chance that they are, but at least I know the Lamictal can possibly do this. The Lamictal situation is a lot more fixable than the other stuff at this point. Blahblah
Also you've cut your Seroquel a lot in 1 year! Is that what caused so much weight loss? I think Seroquel can mess with metabolism & often causes weight gain no? If so, then since you weigh much less, your Lamictal could be effecting you more strongly I would think... It’s a long and weird story lol I’ve had gastrointestinal issues for as long as I can remember. I was diagnosed with gastritis and IBS about 11 years ago which triggered a huge weight loss, but I became overweight again. GI issues got worse. Got diagnosed with GERD. Started having abdominal pains, and they found out I had gastritis and gallstones. Basically when the abdominal pain really kicked in last year, my weight loss started. I had the surgery to remove my gallbladder, and things went all to hell. Now I’m waiting to see a new gastroenterologist my surgeon suggested. I may have malabsorption issues, something wrong with my small bowel, a gastric-emptying Disorder. Something weird is happening lol I’m not sure if the Seroquel decrease sped the weight loss along. I was on a HUGE amount a year ago. I definitely think it’s time to cut down the Lamictal though. I’m afraid that eventually it’ll cause more issues, maybe permanent ones, if it’s not decreased. I’m still losing weight at a rapid pace, so I want to get it taken care of ASAP Edited April 26, 2018 by romancandle
