So I want to get off Latuda as I think it is giving me anxiety/agitation. I take 120mg Latuda now and I have some hallucinations every once in awhile. I have taken Seroquel (gained a bunch of weight), Abilify (quit working), geodon (couldn't sleep and didn't really work), Risperdal (made me lactate and stopped my period, so high prolactin levels). I don't want Zyprexa as I'm morbidly obese as it is. I was thinking maybe Invega? Haven't tried it and I know it's similar to Risperdal. Any feedback is appreciated.

I'd be careful going to invega it can cause the same issues u had with risperdal- what about rexulti?

I wondered that too. Hadn't thought about Rexulti, could try that too.

When I started gaining a lot of weight on Clozapine my Dr. added Ritalin and the weight came off.  I'm on Zyprexa now as well as Ritalin and I haven't gained any weight.  I know it sucks to have weight issues.  I used to be 430lbs, now about 240lbs, had to have gastric bypass surgery.  I'm to the point now where I just want to feel better.  I can find a way to fix any problems with weight gain.  I wish you the best in your search.

Thank you. I am actually to be evaluated for gastric bypass on Tuesday. I'm scared they'll say no due to my health issues.

Your welcome.  I don't know if you have done this, but it really helps to have a letter written in support of the surgery by your PDoc, counselor and your GP.  If I wouldn't have had those letters I wouldn't have been approved.  Stay positive, I will be praying for you, the man upstairs is in your favor.  :)

have you tried typicals? they worked really well for me frequently. they did give me EPS so i always had to take cogentin or propranolol with them, but they worked and i never gained weight.

No I haven't. I always heard they have more side effects.

Thank you, and no I haven't got a letter of support. I just switched therapist and pdoc so I don't know if they would write a letter.

myself and @mmaryland and some others really like vraylar

Yeah that's another I could try. We'll see what my psych NP says on Wednesday. Thanks.

i would second rexult as an alternative if your insurance won't pay for vraylar. vraylar has little seating or activating feelings that vary from individual to individuals. I believe rexulti leans more towards the activating side, don't expect a lot tho, and is great for depression and getting you out of those really deep depressive episodes and keeping you stable at baseline. rexulti isn't great in controlling manic episodes anyhow, while vraylar is wonderful at this. it's really a matter of what your target symptoms are, this will help you decide to use one treatment over the other.

Are u ok with that?

Somewhat. In a way it's good that I won't have to do another prior authorization with insurance but Abilify quit working for me so I wonder will it do the same thing again? But if Latuda is the reason for my night anxiety and it goes away I'll be happy.

@kittyloaf I can second the Latuda anxiety. It would almost make me panicky shortly after taking it. Was worse on the lower doses because they weren't as sedating.

I would definitely second Rexulti as a recommendation. As @mmaryland pointed out, it isn't really good in our individual opinions at treating our manic episodes. I personally manage those with Depakote. Rexulti does help to stabilize further, but its antidepressant effect is where it really shines.

Vraylar would definitely be more useful for difficult manias, but it could also prove to have antidepressant effect as well for some people.

Im having the gastric sleeve on Sept 20 and my PDOC told me to not regain the weight, Abilify was the way to go.  I have 90 pounds to lose.  Half of which were gained by taking so many different AAP's.

Best of luck.

Good luck with your surgery.  I wish the sleeve option had been around when I had the bypass done.

Thank you.  Did you already have the bypass done?  How much have you lost and which med did you stay on?

I had the bypass in 2004, I was 430lbs.  I gained all my weight on Seroquel and binge eating.  I'm currently around 255lbs, trying to get back down to around 230lbs.  I gained some weight on Zyprexa.  I am on Latuda now along with a cocktail of other meds.

The reason I wish I had the sleeve is that there is no dumping syndrome or nutrient deficiency.  At least that is what my brother told me.  He had the sleeve done at 320lbs and is now around 210lbs.  But he doesn't take medication.
