tardive dyskinesia - does everyone get this after prolonged use

Recommended Posts

Hi for the past 6 months or so all I can think of is getting td when I’m older and loosing a job because my tougne hangs out of my mouth.

tardive dyskinesia - does everyone get this after prolonged use of atypical antipsychotics?

I have bipolar type 1 and I need to take saphris 10mg every night for the rest of my life. Any insight into this would be much appreciated, thank you.

No. Not everyone gets TD. If that were the case, nobody would take these drugs. There is, of course, a chance, but I believe the chance is lower with the atypical antipsychotics.

God no- part of why AAPs are now prescribed more than the older APs is that the risk of TD is so much less. I’ve been on Seroquel since 2003 and not a sign of it, and I was just evaluated last Thursday.
