The worst possible fear

Recommended Posts

For a Christian like myself I hang on everything the Gospel talks about. To me it’s the most important decision you can make.

My my worst possible fear is dying, standing before the Almighty. Giving an account of my life. And sent to hell.

My pure O OCD latched onto the worst possible outcome.

At first my OCD latched onto fear of children. One day I was looking at porn and I immediately got this fear, what if I’m standing before God and doing this.

Then it went on from there. I would fear at any moment I was going to be thrusted into hell for all eternity. My anxiety was beyond help.

The Worst possible fear had sunk in. Oh how I hate spikes.

I'm not religious at all, but isn't God supposed to be this almighty, loving, forgiving force? Aren't there a bunch of accounts in the Bible where people murder, steal, etc but pray/believe/ask for forgiveness of their sins and then all is good??

How do you know that you are not in Hell right now?? Look at this planet, the evil, poverty, sickness, greed and the people in power....definitely ain't no paradise...

I'm going to try to respond to you from a Christian perspective.

Do you have such little faith in the saving power of Jesus that you think God is going to throw you into hell for any small infraction? As far as I know, you didn't commit genocide. You didn't hurt children, no matter what your OCD tells you. You believe that Jesus saves people. So what is there to fear? Have faith, my friend.

You guys know you can’t reason with OCD.

That's not entirely true. Maybe not uncontrolled OCD, but if you take the right meds so that it loosens it's grip a little, then the way to beat OCD is through reason (CBT). That's how I beat OCD. This is why it takes meds + therapy to beat.

I concur with blahhh I never thought that since there is suffering on earth, that this can actually be hell here. Like soldiers going to war and coming with amputated legs.

I would call that hell. No one goes through life without any issues.

In this sort of situation I sometimes find Epictetus's dichotomy of control helpful. Whatever is within your control is all you can deal with. Whatever is out of your control, let it go.

You cant change what you've done in the past so forget it and let it go. Whatever you think you need to do to avoid going to hell then do it now.

im not saying its easy but if you keep reminding yourself to "let go of what is out of your control" it can be quite empowering  and helpful

I'm not a Christian, but let me try to reason with you a little bit. Any crime (or "crime") we commit on this earth is finite. Hell, on the other hand, is infinite. It's eternal. Would a loving (a FAIR) God punish finite crimes with infinite suffering? It doesn't ring true to me, but YMMV.
