looking for answers
How does coffee compare to the medical form? I can guzzle coffee and still not feel much, when i was on stim's they seemed much more effective? Does anyone know? Do they work differently or effect your system differently? Iceberg
Coffee has caffeine which is a type of stim just less potent and effective than Rx stims. Some people use caffeine pills instead of prescribed stimulants
Hopelessly Broken
Well, coffee is not an amphetamine, and it also effects the peripheral nervous system more than the CNS, whereas stims do the opposite to varying degrees.

Velvet Elvis
The big difference is side effects. If you ingest enough caffeine to get cognitive effects similar to rx tims, you'll be puking and shitting everywhere, BP through the roof, etc. In a lot of ways, rx stims are milder drugs than caffeine. goyal99
Caffeine is very mild as compared to even low doses of stimulants. For me at least... I can drink 2-3 cups of brewed BLACK coffee during the day and the only side effect for me is a racing heart rate. I don't get a buzz or instant energy surge. Sometimes when an anxious a cup of coffee has a calming effect after 30 min. I have been drinking coffee for many years and I enjoy the taste and aroma of freshly brewed coffee. I don't dink it for energy or any stimulating effect. Maybe my body is used to the caffeine. Sometimes it helps me going to the bathroom for #2 and certainly makes me go to the bathroom more often. Stimulants on the other hand (Adderall and Concerta) even at small doses of 10mg have a much greater stimulating effect on the CNC system for most people. They also have nasty side effects (raise blood pressure, decrease appetite, can cause sleep problems, raise body temperature and other unpleasant effects). They can lead to addiction for a lot of people when taken for a long time and in large dosages. They can have withdrawal symptoms if stopping the stimulant cold turkey. I have personally tried Adderall and Concerta at low doses for Adult ADHD but I had to stop taking them after a few weeks because I developed high Blood pressure while I was on them. They did help me with focus, concentration and gave me more energy but my anxiety and agitation increased when the medications wore off, after a few hours. I have not taken any other stimulants and this has been my own personal experience when comparing caffeine to stimulants.
