Hi everyone, I am new here and appreciate the wealth of information everyone is sharing!!

I would really appreciate people's opinions/experiences with Latuda.

I struggle with a mixed severe depression (lots of irritability and agitation along with very depressed mood and hopelessness and occasional delusional ideas when it gets really bad). My doctor had put me on 20 mg of Latuda and within 4 or 5 days I felt so much better--stable mood, no thoughts of self-harm, no delusions, just much more stable in general. I was so relieved and grateful.

However, within 6 weeks that initial good response seems to have faded. My depression seems worse than ever, and while I am definitely NOT delusional at all, I am really struggling with a very dark mood, difficulty getting out of bed and doing normal everyday things, and am very irritable and agitated. I am so discouraged because I thought the Latuda had granted me a reprieve...My doc says he thinks the dose just isn't high enough and has increased to 40 mg.

Have others experienced Latuda as partially effective at a lower dose and once increased, effective once again? I am really so discouraged. I thought this was going to work but now I am terrified I'll be stuck in this depressive spiral forever. Thanks so much for any feedback on your own experiences with Latuda.

Thanks so much for your response. I don't have a bipolar dx--I struggle with psychotic major depression but I have a lot of agitated features (e.g. not sleeping, extremely irritable/angry, not hungry) so my doctor thought this might be a good medication for me. I'm so scared the increased dose won't work and I'll be stuck in this state forever.

I used to take Latuda. I think I started on 40 mg and was bumped up to 80 mg shortly after, and about a year or so later bumped up again to 120 mg in a partial hospitalization program.

I quit taking it (switched to Abilify) as I felt it was making me anxious at night (I always took Latuda at dinner time). Since switching my anxiety has decreased substantially. Of course you may not experience this anxiety, as it is not listed as a common side effect and everyone is different.

It took me to 120 to hit the sleeping and the irritability/agitation. You know you have to take it with food right?

  • 2 weeks later...

My pdoc actually decreased my latuda for depression.  Which seemed to help but I am bipolar.  You should talk to your pdoc though, from what I understand you need the higher doses for the psycotic part. I am on lamotrigine which during my depressive episode kicked its ass.  Lamotrigine literally save my life.

Again, I am bipolar so it may differ for you.
