Amethyst674
So my pdoc put me on a low dose of lithium. 150 bid. I am doing pretty bad since I had to get off abilify Does it take a long time to work,? Will it help this awful irritability and crying and not wanting to talk to anyone? I am bipolar
looking for answers
for me it kicked in each dose increase in about a week. i felt really weird for 3-4 days then it would level off.
Rabbit37
Doesn’t take long, I think you can start noticing effects in 5 days. Did she tell you the basics... drink lots of water, don’t change your normal salt intake, and you’ll have blood tests frequently til you stabilize on a therapeutic dose. It’s the gold standard for bipolar, good stuff for a lot of folks.
CeremonyNewOrder
On high doses of lithium, I get GI problems and found that taking a quality probiotic (like Culturelle) helped a lot. Like others say, drink lots of water. Stick with it. For me personally, lithium has really, really helped me.
netsavy006
When I started taking Lithium, I had a hand tremor, but it went away over time. Edited October 13, 2018 by netsavy006

Amethyst674
I decided to resume abilify 10mg . I am not ready for a med change at this point in my life. Also I recall that the last time I tried lithium it made me depressed and foggy. There was a reason I did not stay on it. I cannot afford to lose my job. Thanks anyway for all the helpful posts
mikl_pls
Lithium made me more depressed too, in addition to causing seizures.
