Insomnia from Lamictal or Geodon?

Recommended Posts

I didn't really know where to post this, I was thinking the sleep disorders forum, but since this is mostly about meds I thought this was better. Mods, please move it if you can find a better place for it!

Ever since starting Lamictal, which I'm hoping to go off soon since it doesn't do shit for mania nor depression, I have problems sleeping. I've NEVER had problems with sleeping before. Ever. I've always gone to sleep in five minutes and then slept like a baby.

Since I added Geodon, it's been worse. It seems to be very stimulating for me. I couldn't find this in the PI sheet, just "restlessness". But then again, I always get the weird side effects. (Like when I was on Edronax I couldn't look at bright colours cause I instantly got a headache. This was very annoying since it was summer and the sky was too damn blue. Ok, off topic ends here.)

And the Lamictal PI sheet mentions nothing about insomnia either. Just tiredness.

Could any of these meds be causing this?

If you like the Geodon but have trouble sleeping, maybe they can add something for sleep. I'm not sure what they'd want to do in your situation. You know I think Geodon is the master of the gates of hell, but hey, it does have fans. In my case it made me homocidal and groveling on the floor and drooling.

Ever tried seroquel??  I'm not affected by Lunesta or Ambien worh a crap.  I'm taking Seroquel for the psychosis stuff, but holy moly does it knock me on my ass.  If you don't sleep on this stuff, well um.......good lord.....

Who knows? Only the big giant head.  So here's my two cents:  I take 150mg at night before bed and I don't have any insomnia.  but ymmv  ;)

Heya Helena,

Hey, any medication can have any side effect, b/c people are different and we have no blood tests for this stuff.

So if you're thinking of going off Lamictal anyway, see what happens.

And Trazodone isn't bad for a sleep med, and baby-doses of AAPs are pretty good too, just be careful with med combos.

Yeah well my pdoc isn't really into changing stuff now when I finally seem to be doing better. It's probably Geodon that's making me feel better, but who knows when I take so many pills?

Any medication can have any side effect. Couldn't agree more.

Nitrazepam seems to be working nowadays, so I guess that's one less problem. If the insomnia doesn't go away, I'll talk to my pdoc about taking it all in the morning.

Thanks for the help guys.
