sunburnt22
this seems like a daunting task...how do you go to the right person? who do you trust? i'm hoping to find someone in the SF Bay Area...P.S. i got the results of my latest neurotransmitter test, my serotonin is still very low despite the long period of time i've been on lexapro and wellbutrin. is ECT something that would even help with this imbalance? AirMarshall
I would say that the starting point for ECT, or advance psychiatric treatment would be your present psychiatrist. ECT is a very small and specialized part of psychiatry and your Pdoc should know who the practitioners are in your area, and probably will have definite opinions about them. I'm going to guess that you will end up at a University or major medical center, or a psychiatric institute. Good luck. A.M.
Fiona
Definately start with your own psychiatrist. S/he has some information regarding ECT, and how s/he prefers to use it. And also a store of direct case studies of people under her/his care. After youve discussed it with your current pdoc, you'll probably be sent to get a second opinion -- possibly from soeone who does ECT. You'll almost certainly end up at a large medical center for this. ECT really is the last resort -- are you sure you've exhausted the med choices? (I'm not anti-ECT, almost did it myself over a year ago. Fiona
