lisa2712
Hello, For those on Latuda, do you have to take it with a meal consisting of at least 350 calories? I have been told to take Latuda 20 mg after dinner. Taking it in the AM makes me too tired. I read online that one has to have at least 350 calories in their stomach before taking Latuda, or it can cause stomach problems. I'm on a diet, and I usually take about 150-200 or so calories for my dinner. It is my lightest meal of the day. Thank You for Your Advice, Lisa2712 Edited February 3, 2019 by lisa2712

YES, it says so in the PI. Edited February 4, 2019 by notloki typo
mikl_pls
Yes, it's usually prescribed in the evening, and, as you said, to be taken with at least 350 calories.
Wonderful.Cheese
Yes you do need at least 350 calories with latuda in order for it to work. I took 160 mg all in the evening of latuda and I always had to take it with dinner and make sure I ate enough 350 calories or more. And I HATED taking pills in front of husbands friends or his family members. And I got tired from it too. Latuda was meant to replace seroquel for me. Well that flopped. I went manic as ever and was forced IP, put back on seroquel XR and here we are today. That’s just my experience. YMMV.

To be clear, it isn't that Latuda causes stomach problems when taken on an empty stomach. It's only that its bioavailability is very low when it isn't taken with food. Bioavailability can be reduced by 50% or more when it is taken on an empty stomach. Geodon (ziprasidone) is the same way except I believe it requires at least 500 calories and they're apparently starting to say that for Latuda as well based on post-marketing data/reports.
