Xanax and xanaxXR

Recommended Posts

I’m currently taking a baby dose of Xanax (0.25 mg twice daily).  The morning dose (or, to be fair, the morning dose of something I take, but it's the most recent change) makes me really sleepy about 30 minutes after I take it.  I fade really quickly and have to pay particular attention to whatever I'm holding onto.  Fortunately I’m on the metro and not driving.

the early afternoon dose (130ish) doesn’t hit me nearly as hard.

im wondering if the difference is that the morning dose I don’t have any food in my stomach (I eat when I get to work) whereas the afternoon dose I’ve had breakfast and lunch.  That’s the only major difference I can come up with.

I don’t want to lose the anxiety relief that I’m getting.  Any suggestions?  I put XanaxXr in the title because I wasn’t sure if that would be a solution.  I am wondering if it’s as easy as take it at work when eating breakfast.

Many people on here have told me that the XR just didnt cut it. I need 2mg for it to work and many docs won’t easily Rx that. I have had similar issues with some meds and I think it’s just cuz I’m not full awake when I take the first dose so it’s just harder to wake all the way up

Thanks, good to know.  I’m waiting for my appointment right now, so I’ll ask her about trying it with food when I get to work.  Or maybe I should just eat breakfast at home.  I’d just feel rushed.  Because waiting until I get to work would mean no anxiety relief until then and that (beginning of the day prework) is one of the hard spots.

So my pdoc thinks it might be that the klonopin hasn't fully worn off before I take the xanax in the morning...so it's fully out of my system before the time I take it in the morning.

Game plan is to try taking between 6am (current) at 10am (if i can tolerate it) and see what works best.  I can also experiment with food and no food, in case that is a factor.  We're reducing my klonopin dose to 0.75mg.

It may be better to take it later, like you said, 10 perhaps so you have eaten, and the klonopin will be more out of your system. Mine makes me drowsy too.

Maybe if it’s still making you that drowsy, you could try breaking just a tiny bit off. I’ve had to do this with mine and it helped quite a bit.
