Wonderful.Cheese
My pdoc did something goofy? I think she was under the impression that I was taking 5 mg zyprexa zydis AM and 5 mg at bedtime. But it was PRN so I just took 5-10 mg at bedtime. Then she made it a regular part of my daily cocktail and doubled the dose. Well I got my med box and it was in there to take 10 mg zyprexa zydis in AM and 10 mg at bedtime. ????? Wouldn’t I be knocked out in the AM? Wouldn’t it cancel out the nuvigil? I haven’t tried it this way yet. I’ve just been taking all 20 mg at bedtime. But I’m curious. Is there any advantage to taking it 2 times a day? Would it help with the anger/hypo/manic junk? Or does it have a long half life so no need to take 2 times a day? Help? I’m confused why she would prescribe it like this. When I took it years ago, I always took it all at bedtime. According to this publication about Zyprexa Zydis, it has a half-life of 21-54 hours, with an average half-life of 30 hours: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/drugsatfda_docs/label/2000/21086lbl.pdf So, even at the lower end of 21 hours, that's a pretty long half life, IMO......I'm not the doc, though, so maybe you could ask if you could take the whole dose at bedtime, since you did it that way before.

Hey thanks for the info CRH! I guess I understand now. It's confusing but it seems like there is really no need to take it two times a day then really. I don't want to call my pdoc's nurse about this because she is against me for some reason and I don't want to further worsen things. Anyway, I'll ask at my next appointment in a month or so.

I used to do 20 pm and then 5 in the am (was technically PRN but took it most days) I didn’t really get any benefit and came with some weight gain

I don’t want the weight gain nor the non benefit of taking it in the AM. I don’t want to go above 20 mg really either. Although my pdoc will probably suggest that if I’m truly honest with her. Ugh. Or she will increase the Abilify back up (no thanks!). Or add a 3rd AAP again (no thanks again!). I just don’t want much to change. I know things aren’t the best right now. I can see or feel it at times but I’m so sick of med changes or increases! I finally got her to agree to lower my Abilify to 30 mg! And I wasn’t even too happy about doubling my zyprexa zydis dose, but I guess something had to be done before I ruined my marriage. So that happened. One plus is that I’m still losing weight slowly. I’ve lost another maybe 3-5 lbs! Since I last weighed myself! I don’t even remember the last time I weighed this weight! I’ve lost 60 lbs since my highest weight years and years ago now! So weird. Seroquel made me gain like crazy and made it impossible to lose weight. Zyprexa I’m losing weight. Very odd. Ymmv I guess for sure.
argh
If you are still looking to take prozac with your zyprexa to make an adhoc symbyax, it should be a single dose in the evening. https://www.drugs.com/dosage/symbyax.html
dancesintherain
I’ve managed to lose weight on zyprexa (though to be fair most of the weight that I put on was also zyprexa). Fingers crossed that it’ll continue, but it’s definitely possible. ive only ever taken zyprexa at night beyond a few prns at a particularly dreadful hospital stay. Not saying that would happen to you. Is there some day where you could try it and see what happens?
