DammitJanet
Fortunately, it’s one more of his idiotic pipe dreams that’ll never come to fruition. 😃
onsenseal
Wouldn't people with MI just try to hide it even more then?

CeremonyNewOrder
Whenever a mass shooting happens, I get paranoid thoughts that people with severe MI are going to get rounded up and incarcerated for a very long time.
DammitJanet
Logistics of this would be impossible to establish who. It’ll never happen. Aside from that, tRump would be the first to be committed.

Rounding everyone up and locking them up for a long time would be impossible to execute. How Ill do they have to be? What kinds of illnesses? How severe? Hipaa. And if he can’t afford his pos wall, where’s the money going to come from to build mass institutions? No way. This is the real argument here. It would be too expensive. Believe in capitalism, it will never disappoint.

How does the government decide which people with MI to lock up? His language is scary ... Trump is so ignorant......Mental illness is not the cause of the enormous increase in mass shootings here in the U.S..... The article itself mentioned that other countries have similar rates of mental illness as the U.S. does, but don't have nearly the amount of mass shootings we have here in America..........The article itself also said that less than 25% of the mass shooters here were clinically diagnosed with a mental illness. IMO, Trump is just throwing a bone to his NRA (National Rifle Association) buddies......NRA is one of the groups that greatly support him, and he surely doesn't want to piss them off by getting tougher on gun control laws and background checks. In summary, I think this is just Trump flapping his lips and nothing will ever be actually done... In summary, I think this is just Trump flapping his lips and nothing will ever be actually done... I think *we* all know it's not the cause ... but I have seen so many people arguing that it is on social media in spite of all the evidence. The whole "no sane person would do that, hence it must be mental illness" argument. So "all behavior I don't understand" equals "mental illness" which then gets conflated with actual clinically diagnosable mental illness and therefore people with diagnosed MI are potential threats. At least that's how the argument looks to me.
DogMan
Lawyers would have to take part blame IMO They'll latch onto any semblance of MI in attempts to soften sentencing Just adds to common belief

At least that's how the argument looks to me. According to the National Institutes of Mental Health, almost 1 in 5 Americans live with a mental illness. https://www.nimh.nih.gov/health/statistics/mental-illness.shtml Quote from the article: "In 2017, there were an estimated 46.6 million adults aged 18 or older in the United States with AMI .This number represented 18.9% of all U.S. adults...." (AMI means "Any Mental Illness") That's nearly 20% of the population of the U.S........Locking up everyone with MI here in the U.S. would be impossible.....Will never happen. All it is, is just more dramatic, meaningless outbursts from Don the Con. Edited August 17, 2019 by CrazyRedhead
