dancesintherain
I’ve only repeated meds twice. I repeated abilify twice and got akathisia the second time. I tried Ativan off and on, but most recently stopped it because it wasn’t mixing well with other drugs. there are a handful I won’t go back to - EPS despite cogentin, cogentin (blurry vision), a few ADs that likely contributed to manic or mixed states. But I feel there are some that may not hurt. what makes you decide to give a med another try? Any things that lead toward that call? mikl_pls
I have had to retry/revisit several meds before multiple times because I've run out of options from trying everything. My pdoc has me try meds again that worked in the past for me but pooped out. Sometimes they start working again, sometimes they don't work at all, and sometimes I get negative side effects from them I never used to get before. notloki
The only reason to try a drug again is because something has changed.
argh
When the addition of another drug is added which can help smooth things out. Remeron alone or Wellbutrin + Remeron? Never again. That's a close second to paxil monotherapy in never again territory. But i'd try Remeron again so long as i have gabapentin (which wasn't bad actually..quite good in fact, as i was briefly on wellbutrin + remeron + gabapentin) and lamotrigine. If wellbutrin is removed, i might actually ask for remeron again. It really wasn't bad with an AC in place. i have an irrational fear of AAPs and fall heavily towards the depressive side, so I'd try an AD or 5 before having to move onto AAPs with AD effects. shesellsseashells
Meds work differently in combination with others, so for me, I'm more likely to try something again if another med in my cocktail has changed since that time. I'm also up for taking an old med again if I wasn't on the highest dose the first time. For example, I'd taken Vyvanse in the past, which did not have an effect on my binge eating disorder cravings at 60 mg, but it wiped them out this time around when I hit 70 mg. I'm so glad I gave it another go!
dancesintherain
thank you all. helpful to have different perspectives. I realized I might be asking a bit prematurely as it's possible that modifying the dosage of one of my current meds might do the trick. but if not, the concept of revisiting a med might come up. HydroCat
I am now on Abilify for the third time, on Prozac second time and have been on Cymbalta twice. Effects were the same. On the other hand, trying Risperidone for the second time caused weird side effects. When something changes, specifically with the condition or generally in life, it makes sense to try previous meds again.
