dancesintherain
I know there's not a ton of institutional knowledge about fanapt, but I figured I'd ask just in case. Anyone know about how long it would take to see AH disappear with Fanapt (specifically 9mg in conjunction with 20mg zyprexa)? I only started the dosage change (from 6mg) on Friday, so I'm not expecting it yet. But I'm trying to see if I'm sitting through days or through weeks. I see my pdoc on Tuesday, but I know she said she doesn't prescribe it frequently. It's been a great drug for me until these symptoms hit, but 6mg is a really low dose. I see my pdoc on Tuesday, but I know she said she doesn't prescribe it frequently. It's been a great drug for me until these symptoms hit, but 6mg is a really low dose. I remember being on the max dose of fanapt (12 mg twice daily I think?). This was back when the county clinic had sample packs (I had the starter pack of fanapt I believe) and freebies from drug companies like pill cases. I still have my geodon pill case. Husband uses it. Ha. This is when fanapt first came out! I had to get off of it because it wasn’t cutting it for me or maybe I didn’t give it enough time but I was suffering greatly and on the verge of being forced IP again. So my pdoc at the time, out of desperation, swapped it for something not so brand new and I believe he just put me back on seroquel IR (there was no XR at the time yet). I don’t think I was on fanapt for more than a week at the max dose. I need sedating meds and fanapt was not that way for me so I really crashed and burned. So I know this isn’t super helpful. But I noticed no one replied or maybe no one has experience with fanapt. But I had a week at 24 mg, 12 mg twice a day. Do you take it twice a day? I think it’s prescribed twice daily normally. Maybe that could be beneficial? Something to ask pdoc about? And are you cutting a pill in half right now? I don’t see a 9 mg pill available on my handy dandy insurance app. Just 1, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 mg doses for fanapt. And I don’t know how helpful or comforting this is but according to NAMI, it can take 2 weeks for AH to improve and sometimes these symptoms don’t go away all the way. But I’m hopeful for you because they’ve gone away for you before and they haven’t been everlasting in the past for you. Thinking of you. Good luck with pdoc on Tuesday. Ask about the twice daily dosing as recommended by the fanapt official website (if you want to or aren’t already taking it twice daily). Stay hopeful. We’re here for you and care. Sending support, as always.
dancesintherain
Hi, Thanks for the reply! I can't take it twice daily because it gives me horrible insomnia, even at the 1 and 2mg dosages. Or at least it did when I was starting it. I'd be game for trying it again, but i'm not sure if it's smart while working. Right now I'm taking 1.5 of the 6mg in the morning. So my hope is it'll take care of the daytime symptoms. If I tolerate it and it seems to help, she'll call in 8 mg. Then we'll hope to not have to have another fight with the insurance. Yes, it seems like there isn't much known on this one. Possibly because it's listed as being approved for schizophrenia only? Thanks, dances Edited September 29, 2019 by dancesintherain
