Simba Cub
Interesting. There are four potential treatments for Corona Virus already in the pipeline - come in China, one I believe in England and another in, again I think, Denmark. But more amazing is that a treatment for Lupus seems to fight the Corona virus. Fingers crossed!
notloki
chloroquine phosphate is a anti malaria drug first introduced in the 1940. It does not "come" from one particular country, it was a drug pretty well everyone had access to. It has shown antivirus activity against COVID-19. Better drugs are used for malaria today but chloroquine phosphate is still made, your doc can write a prescription for it today.
mikl_pls
Hydroxychlorquine is also being looked at, as well as the HIV drug Kaletra, the ebola drug (that was never marketed) remdesivir, and they are doing trials with the blood pressure drug losartan as well.

Melancholya
Didn't a guy die from taking chloroquine after Trump said it's completely safe and the FDA had approved it for coronavirus? (the FDA had not.) I think the guy may have been healthy. This is something my hubby told me after reading about it online so I can't say for sure. Yes, someone is experimenting & giving their patients the malaria drug chloroquine, when it hasn't been proven safe & approved...

A man died and his wife is in critical condition after they tried to self-medicate with chloroquine phosphate -- an additive used to clean fish tanks. The wife said she heard people on TV talking about the drug chloroquine.

Antecedent
It's interesting that drugs for other illnesses can cure surprise pandemics like this. It might provide extra motivation in future for drug companies and charities to fund scientific research into illnesses that only effect a small number of people! The more drugs we have the more things we can try if we get an epidemic 9 hours ago, Melancholya said: I see. So they took a different form? I wonder! it could be a different form, or it could be like the saying goes "the poison is in the dose" if you are using it to "clean" something you'd imagine it was an extremely potent mix
Catnapper
Here's an article from the NY Times about some testing in Brazil that was stopped due to the potential for sudden cardiac death: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/12/health/chloroquine-coronavirus-trump.html
helenllama
A larger french trial has also reported back as no significant difference between placebo group and the group treated with hydroxychloroquine.

Fingers crossed! A sudden demand for that lupus drug and people buying it up without it even being proven yet, has made it hard for people who are on it for lupus to get their medication. @Gearhead @Melancholya Here is a video about that couple who drank fish tank cleaner.
